GEOMETRIC FIGURES
VOCABULARY
POLYGON
• Is a closed plane figure formed by three or
more line segments that meet at points
called vertices.
HEPTAGON
• Is a closed plane shape formed by
SEVEN line segments.
NONAGON
• Is a closed plane shape formed by
NINE line segments.
REGULAR POLYGON
• A polygon with all sides congruent and all angles
congruent.
CONGRUENT
• A figure with all the same length line segments and
has the same measurement for each angle.
EQUILATERAL TRIANGLE
• A triangle with three congruent sides.
ISOSCELES TRIANGLE
• A triangle with 2 congruent sides.
SCALENE TRIANGLE
• A triangle with no congruent sides.
QUADRILATERALS
• A closed figure made by four sides and four angles.
PARALLELOGRAM
• A closed shape with opposite sides congruent and
parallel.
RECTANGLE
• Is a special parallelogram with four right angles and
four pairs of perpendicular lines.
SQUARE
• Is a special parallelogram with four congruent sides
and four right angles.
RHOMBUS
• A special parallelogram with four congruent sides.
TRAPEZOID
• A quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel
lines.
POLYHEDRONS
• A solid figure that has three dimension: height,
width, length with faces that form polygons.
PRISM
• Is a polyhedron that has two congruent polygons as
bases.
PYRAMID
• Is a polyhedron with only one base.
BASES
• The bottom shape or face of a solid object.
LATERAL FACES
• The polygons that connect with the base to form
the sides of a polyhedron.
EDGES
• Is a line segment that joins to vertices.
VERTEX OR VERTICES
• Are a point where two or more line segments meet.
NETS
• A pattern that you can cut and fold to make a
model of a solid shape.
