The EEP Client runs on each protected device. The Client backs up data to an EEP vault, and includes an interface for managing backups and restores. The EEP QuickCache is a local network cache for backup data. Devices can back up data to and restore from a QuickCache at LAN speed via their local network. The QuickCache can then upload device data to an EEP Vault at off-peak times when network traffic is lower. The EEP Vault stores backup data from devices. The Vault is installed with a web-based dashboard for creating and managing partners, companies, users, and devices. EVault-hosted customers and partners use a multi-tenant vault managed by EVault, and do not need to deploy the Vault software. 1.1 Release History Version 7.2, March 2015 Version 7.0, July 2014 Version 6.3, January 2014 Version 6.2, October 2013 Version 6.1 Update 1, June 2013 Version 6.1, June 2013 Version 6.0, March 2013 Version 5.3, February 2013 Version 5.2, January 2013 Version 5.1, August 2012 1.2 Supported Client Platforms EEP Client 7.2 is supported on the following platforms: Windows 8.1 (32-bit and 64-bit) Windows 8 (32-bit and 64-bit) Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit) Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit) Windows XP SP3 (32-bit) 2 Macintosh OS X 10.10 Yosemite Macintosh OS X 10.9 Mavericks Macintosh OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion Macintosh OS X 10.7 Lion Macintosh OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Macintosh OS X 10.5 Leopard Note: Starter editions of Windows are not supported. Note: The At Rest Encryption (ARE) feature requires the Windows Encrypting File System (EFS) feature, which is not available on Home editions of Windows or any OS X. Note: Port Access Control is not available on OS X. The default language in the EEP Client is English. Text can also appear in Spanish, French, German, Polish, Italian, and Portuguese (Brazil). In Windows only, text can appear in Japanese, Korean, or Chinese (Simplified). If the Client supports the device's current display language, text appears in the Client in the display language. If the Client does not support the device's current display language, English text appears in the Client. EEP Client 7.2 is supported with QuickCache versions 6.2 and later, and Vault versions 5.2 and later. 1.3 Supported Browsers for the Dashboard The following browsers are supported for the dashboard: Internet Explorer 10, 9 and 8, Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. 1.4 Supported QuickCache Platforms EEP QuickCache 7.2 is supported on the following platforms: Windows Server 2012 R2 Windows Server 2012 Windows Storage Server 2012 Windows Server 2008 R2 Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 EEP QuickCache is supported with Client versions 5.2 and later, with Vault versions 7.0 and later. 3 1.5 Supported Vault Platforms Note: Vault platform information is not relevant for customers who back up data to EVaulthosted vaults. EEP Vault 7.2 is supported on Windows Server 2008 R2, with the full version of SQL Server 2008, 2008 R2, or 2012 installed. 2 NEW FEATURES Performance improvements. Various performance improvements have been made, including improved backup progress when the vault is heavily loaded, and more precise turning of interactions between the Client and Vault. Device name available for email templates. A new token is available for two email templates: first device and subsequent devices. If @deviceName@ is added to the subject or body of the email template, it will be replaced with the device name when the email is sent. Computer name uploaded. The computer name is now uploaded from the Client to the Vault. This information is not currently accessible in the Dashboard; if you need to use this information, contact Support. For example, a script could be used to rename devices in the Dashboard to match the current computer name. Okta support. The Okta identity service is now supported for SSO integration. 3 CLIENT INSTALLATION NOTES 3.1 Installation Requirements The following are minimum system requirements for the EEP Client: Memory: 1 GB RAM Disk space: 1 GB free 3.2 Conditional Requirements None 3.3 Install/Uninstall/Upgrade EEP Client installation kit file names are: DCProtectInstall.exe - Client installer for PC DCProtectInstall.msi - Client installer for PC for silent deployment 4 DCProtectInstall.pkg - Client installer for Macintosh 4 QUICKCACHE INSTALLATION NOTES 4.1 Installation Requirements Memory: 2 GB RAM minimum (4 GB recommended) Hard disk space: 1 TB storage minimum QuickCache can be installed on a physical server, virtualized server, or NAS device that meets these requirements. The LaCie 5big Office + is an example of a Windows-based NAS device that would be suitable for a QuickCache. 4.2 Conditional Requirements QuickCache CPU requirements are minimal, based on Windows Server requirements. Hard disk requirements are dependent on how much data is needed on-site for LAN speed recoveries. For example, 2 TB of storage could provide 5 GB of compressed storage for 400 users. For a typical environment, this should provide at least 10 GB of on-site copies of data per device (50% compression is typical). This would provide LAN speed backup and restores for much if not all of the data on typical devices for all 400 users. 4.3 Install/Uninstall/Upgrade The QuickCache installation kit file name is QuickCacheInstaller.exe. 5 VAULT INSTALLATION NOTES Note: Vault installation information is not relevant for customers who back up data to EVaulthosted vaults. 5.1 Installation Requirements Memory: 2 GB RAM minimum (4 GB recommended) Full version of SQL Server 2008, SQL server 2008 R2, or SQL Server 2012 (Standard or above) Note: Express editions of SQL Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 are only sufficient for trial versions of the vault. When installing a trial version, you are prompted to install SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition if a valid SQL Server version is not installed. Valid SSL certificate for the vault name, and DNS name resolution configured so that clients can find the vault on the network 5 5.2 Conditional Requirements None 5.3 Licensing Requirements A valid license activation code is required for installing a production vault. You can add servers to an initial vault without reentering the code. Without a license code, you can install a trial vault that is valid for 30 days, and up to 10 client devices. 5.4 Install/Uninstall/Upgrade The EEP Vault installation kit file name is VaultInstaller.exe By running this installation kit, you can install a production vault, add a server to an existing vault, or install a trial vault. For a multiple-server vault implementation, you must first install a single production vault. 6 FIXES AND KNOWN ISSUES 6.1 Fixes When you upgrade the EEP Client on OS X, XQuartz is now upgraded if required. Display issues occurred if XQuartz was not upgraded. EEP Client updates on Windows now run successfully after being pushed from the Vault. OS X clients no longer fail to upload backups if the allowed bandwidth is too low (e.g., 10 KB/s). The Access web site for web retrieval now supports device names that include apostrophes (e.g., Paul‘s Laptop). Previously, the site gave a general error for these devices. Issues with restoring large files have been resolved. Errors no longer occur when exporting reports for non-Admin users. Health reporting issues no longer occur with deleted devices. Policy inheritance is no longer lost when a policy is updated using the API. Issues with the German translation have been resolved. Display issues have been resolved for localized clients when Windows is configured for 125% scaling. 6 6.2 Known Issues When protecting a Google Drive folder using an ARE policy, files will not immediately get encrypted. This occurs because Google Drive is holding the files open. Depending on policy settings, backups for these files can be delayed. 7 PRODUCT SUPPORT 7.1 Technical Support For technical support, please contact your service provider. 7.2 Product Updates Product updates are available from your service provider. 7.3 Documentation EEP documentation is available on the Support website: http://csp.evault.com. 7
