5. The baptism with the Holy Spirit and with fire announced by John is the one you have received. The
Holy Spirit abides in your soul and God’s fire, his
force, is vivid in your heart. What are you doing with
these gifts to bear fruit? Commit yourself not to waste
them giving up to selfishness that closes up your life
to others.
6. Whoever is aware of behaving badly and doesn’t want
to change, tries to get virtuous people out of his path.
If he lacks Herod’s power he will use other means:
ridiculing generosity, isolating the person because is
different, spreading false accusations, etc. If you have
to suffer for this reason and you resist, you will discover many people who appreciates your coherence
and you will understand who is a loyal friend.
Finishing prayer
I thank you my Lord for the good resolutions, affections

now the axe is laid to the root of the trees; every tree

"What then shall we do?" And he answered them, "He

"Teacher, what shall we do?" And he said to them, "Collect no more than is appointed you." Soldiers also asked
him, "And we, what shall we do?" And he said to them,
"Rob no one by violence or by false accusation, and be

John, whether perhaps he were the Christ, John answered them all, "I baptize you with water; but he who
is mightier than I is coming, the thong of whose sandals
I am not worthy to untie; he will baptize you with the

1. Luke starts his account of the public life of Jesus with
another historic note, following his propose of being
precise. He is perfectly conscious of the importance of
transmitting real facts as really happened, not leaving
space to think that it might be an epic story or a moral fable. The strength of Christian faith come from Jesus’ real life: the Incarnation of the Word of God has
happened in history and it has a meaning for our personal existence.
2. The most powerful man on earth at the time was
Tiberius, the Caesar. But he fails to recognize God’s
action in his dominions. The contrast between human
and divine logic is huge. The first seeks power and
glory, the second works silently but its influence last
for centuries. In fact, what last of Tiberius’ deeds?
And of Jesus’? Almost no one knew of his birth and
we now count the years from that moment. Think on
your actions: whatever is done for God, will last forever; whatever you will perform for your own glory or
out of selfishness, will disappear with you.
