Diarrhea is on the fourth position of diseases that causes death in Indonesia.  Diarrhea is
caused by contamination of food or drinks by Entamoeba histolytica parasite, causing dysentery
amoeba. It is often found on tropical and sub tropical country, especially on regions with weak
socio economy and bad sanitation condition.
Indonesia as a tropical country is very susceptible toward spreading of diarrhea. Medications
that currently available usually have high level of toxicity, and there are many side effects such
as nausea,, leukopenia, neutropenia, and neuropati perifer.
The problem motivates five students of Medical Faculty (FK) Ivan, Dewangga, Shafiq, Dwi and
Fitria to find better way to prevent spreading of diarrhea without medication, through amoebasis
vaccine named Amoevax, and has been funding by Program of Student Creativity-Research
(PKM P) from Directorate General of Higher Education.

"Amoevax is a vaccine to prevent diarrhea using Lec A specific that is contained in biofilm
Staphylococcus aureus and commonly found colonized in nose and skin around 25-30% on
healthy adult," Ivan said.
Research result shows that the protein structure of staphylococcus aureus have similarity with
entamoeba histolytica, which is Gal/GalNAc lectin, which specifically a protein recombinant on
Gal/GalNAc lectin is LecA.
LecA is one of the defense component in Entamoeba histolytica which help sticking protozoa on
certain surface, such as the wall of stomach, causing small pores and help spreading tropozoit
to other sites. Besides, Gal/GalNac lectin Lec A also resistant toward lisis by complement and
helping in encystment process.
"Human has defense system against foreign objects that enter the body, which is body immune
system. There are two kinds of immunity, innate immunity and adaptive immunity. Innovation of
amoebiasis vaccine innovation function is on the adaptive immune system of human," Ivan said.
Dewangga added that the vaccine has been tested on wistar rat and the research shows that
the administration of vaccine can increase specific antibody response (IgG) of rat as immunity
response significantly (p<0,05). Pearson test on the effect of dosage with increasing IgG
shows a significant result (R = 0,889). The research result on the tested animal that has been
vaccinated and inducted by Entamoeba histolytica also able to raise the IgG of rat as immunity
response significantly (p<0,05). Pearson test on the effect of dosage with increasing IgG
shows a significant result (R = 0.970).
"The research result will be continuously developed and it is expected that on the next five
years it can be tested on human so that Indonesia can have the first vaccine to prevent
