STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS
November 10, 2014
Any volleyball players that have not turned in their uniforms, please do so as soon as possible. You can
turn them into the office, or Mr. Gyllin.
Those FFA members that signed up for leaf raking for the elderly. We will meet at Lions Park
this Saturday, November 8th at 8:30 am. Bring your leaf rake and we will be done before noon.
Technical School Bound Juniors or Seniors: MHS will be hosting the COMPASS test on Wednesday,
December 10 at 8:00 a.m. Cost is $20. Register with Mrs. Mead by December 5.
Military Bound Juniors or Seniors: MHS will be hosting the ASVAB test on Wednesday, December 10 at
8:00 a.m. Test is free of charge and there is no commitment to the military by taking this exam. Register
with Mrs. Mead by December 5.
Seniors: Jostens will be coming to distribute cap, gown, and senior graduation product ordering
information on Tuesday, November 18 at 8:00 a.m. in the auditorium. Order date will be on Wednesday,
December 3 over the three noon hours.
Senior pictures should be turned in to Ms. Hansen by Nov. 28th to be added to the yearbook.
Also, Seniors need to bring in baby pics to be added to the yearbook as well.
Toys for Joy Annual Drive: Last year we helped over 400 children ages birth to 18. Donations of new
toys or money may be dropped off at the Mauston Chamber of Commerce, Juneau County Star Times,
Mauston City Hall, Mauston area churches.
Parents - sign up Mauston School District children by Tuesday, December 2 at the Community Sharing
Pantry or Hatch Public Library to receive a toy. Distribution will be on Thursday, December 11.
Wisconsin Professional Police Association-For seniors enrolling in a college or technical school in a
course of study leading to a two or four year degree in police science, criminal justice, or a law
enforcement-related field. Apply by February 2. at www.wppa.com or pick up an application packet in
the counseling office.
Jan Ray Scholarship- $1,500 for several Juneau, Adams, or Monroe County seniors who have at least
a cumulative 3.0 GPA and plan to major in a social services , psychology, sociology or social work
field. Apply by March 15.
Alliant Energy Community Scholarship—
Twenty-five—$1,000 scholarships for seniors whose parents are customers of Alliant Energy (Wis. Power
& Light). Award selection is based on participation in a leadership role in community service activities and
volunteer work; academic grade point average; standardized test scores; and the content of a 300-word
essay submission. MHS had two recipients in 2014. Apply on-line
at ww.alliantenergy.com/foundationscholarshipbetween Dec. 1 and Feb. 15.
Mediacom Scholarship- $1,000 for seniors who have demonstrated leadership and initiative in their
school and community activities. This is a regional scholarship that MHS has received in the past. Apply
by February 15 at www.mediacomworldcom.com or pick up applications in the counseling office.

$1,000 Wisconsin Elks Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship-For seniors demonstrating
achievement in scholarship, leadership, and community service. We have had numerous recipients in
the past. Apply by December 5 online at: www.elks.org/enf/scholars
The following Career Guest Speakers are presenting at MHS:
Wed. November 12 - 9:45 - Topic - Wildlife Rehabilitator
These career presentations last 30-45 minutes. See Mrs. Mead in the counseling office for further
information. Open to individual students with interests in the particular career path or teachers may bring
their entire class to listen to the presentation.
College/Military Visits
Wed. Nov. 12 - WTC-LaCrosse from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Tues. Nov. 18 - U.S. Marines - noon hours in lunchroom
