Additional exercise for VISAL sessions
Title of the exercise
Introduction – “What´s your name / nickname?”
Which session is this exercise to be used for?
Session 1 “Getting to know you”
- To be used as an ice-breaker during the introduction of participants.
What session aims does it specifically meet?
 Beginning with humour and easy interactive activity to create relaxed
atmosphere and gradually build confidence and group cohesion.
 Help the participants to get to know names, learn more about each other.
Short description of the exercise and the inputs the facilitator need to
deliver
Participants sit in a circle and one by one introduce themselves by telling a story
about how they got their name or acquired a nickname if they got one.
Participants can choose how much they want to say, from one sentence to a
whole anecdote.
Any specific adaptations required to ensure those with a visual
impairment are able to fully participate in the exercise?
No specific adaptations needed.
Any additional materials needed? (Pens, flipcharts, audio recorded
material)
None.
Time needed to complete the exercise
Depending on participant’s stories and involvement, from 10 to 20 minutes.
