Number and Algebra – Addition/Subtraction
Run or Die
Suggested Outcomes

Selects and applies appropriate strategies for addition and subtraction with
counting numbers of any size
Resources

Large PVC dice – 6 sided, 10 sided, 12 sided, 20 sided

Cones

Trundle wheel

Whiteboards (small)

Whiteboard markers
Instructions

4 teams each with one PVC die

1 person from each team throws their die

That person runs out and records at the numbers thrown by all teams

Once all 4 teams are recorded they go back to their teams to add the total
Alternatives

The students must run around an object first before looking at the dice.

The students need to run obstacle course (hurdles, agility ladders) before looking at
dice.

The students throw the dice through a target before looking at the dice.

Start at an amount e.g. 301 and they subtract their total of 4 throws from this amount.
Working towards the exact final amount at the end.
