Heroes and Monsters Mihi nomen est ______________________ Throughout the Greek and Roman world there are many tales of great gods and heroes, as well as fearsome monsters. These conflicts are often one of the following: -Explanations of natural phenomena -Representations of the power of humanity over nature (or its powerlessness) -Important events in personal journeys -Recognition of local greatness Assignment (1) Choose a hero/god and monster from the list below. (2)Research these two individuals for background on their history, physical appearance, and characteristics. (3) Draw a fight between the two. (4) In 5-6 sentences explain who the hero and monster are, how the fight would conclude, and what the conflict would represent or explain about the participants or greater world. The Nemean Lion was a near-invincible lion who used trickery to lure travelers and would-be heroes to their death. Odysseus would face a difficult match in fighting the Nemean Lion, due to its near-invincible skin, but, like Hercules, may realize that blunt force would overcome this defense.
