Ancient China Flip Book
Use the information from chapter 7 in your Social Studies textbook to complete this
assignment. Below are the directions for what you should include on each flap of
your flip book.
Cover: Include title “Chapter 7: China” and at least three COLOR pictures representing key
concepts, individuals, or events found in this chapter.
Flap #1: Title the first tab “Lesson 1: Reunifying China”
 On the left-side page include the key terms and definitions for Confucianism,
Buddhism, and Daoism, and answer the following question: Who was Yang Jian (aka
Wendi), and what methods did he use to reunify and strengthen China after the fall
of the Han dynasty?
 On the right-side page outline the principles of the following belief systems:
Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism/New Confucianism (Buddhism + Daoism)
Flap #2: Title the second tab “Lesson 2: Advances Under the Tang and Song”
 On the left-side page include the key terms and definitions for Imperial, Bureaucracy,
Scholar-official, Wood-block printing, Moveable type, Porcelain, and Meritocracy,
and answer the following question: What were some key Chinese inventions or
products that had a great influence on the world?
 On the right-side create a diagram like the one on TB page 222, Reading Skill: Finding
Main Ideas (follow instructions in book).
Flap #3: Title the third tab “Lesson 4: A Return to Chinese Rule (post Mongol rule)”
 On the left-side page include the key terms and definitions for Forbidden City,
Maritime, Tribute, Zheng He, and Manchus, and answer the following question:
What changes did the Ming rulers bring to China?
 On the right-side create a diagram like the one on TB page 238, Reading Skill:
Forming and Supporting Opinions (follow instructions in book).
Back Page: Take notes on the video shown in class,” The Mongol Empire.”
