A Linux-based software company has teamed up with chip and board manufacturer to
deliver a proof-of-concept (PoC) wireless sensor platform for the medical community.
The PoC or prototype platform was designed to eliminate the need for bulky and
cumbersome wires that connect sensors on a hospital patient to computer-based
monitoring equipment.
Using wireless technology, the prototype platform will enable the connection of more
than 25 Bluetooth wireless biometric sensors to a patient’s body. The platform will then
graphically portray the patient’s sensor data on a computer running a Microsoft
Window’s operating system.
The software, called LynxSecure by LnynxWorks, uses virtualization technology to
enable a Linux-based and Windows operating systems to run in parallel on a hardware
platform – a Portwell Mini-ITX board with an Intel® Core™2 Duo processor. This
prototype demonstrates to the medical community both the proof of a wireless sensor
approach as well as the integration of commercially available subsystems to create the
platform.

New Intel® Atom™ Processor-Based Platform for Smartphone, Tablet

Intel Corporation today unveiled its newest Intel® Atom™ processor-based platform
(formerly "Moorestown", PDF 202KB). The technology package provides significantly
lower power consumption1 and prepares the company to target a range of computing
devices, including high-end smartphones, tablets and other mobile handheld products.
The chips bring Intel's classic product strengths -- outstanding performance to run a
comprehensive and growing number of rich media and Internet applications, a choice of
software, and the ability to easily multitask -- across a number of applications, including
HD video and multi-point videoconferencing.
The platform includes the Intel® Atom™ processor Z6xx Series Family (formerly
"Lincroft" system-on-chip [SoC]), the Intel Platform Controller Hub MP20 (formerly
"Langwell") and a dedicated Mixed Signal IC (MSIC), formerly "Briertown."
The platform has been repartitioned to include the Intel Atom processor Z6xx, which
combines the 45nm Intel Atom processor core with 3-D graphics, video encode and
decode, as well as memory and display controllers into a single SoC design. It also
includes the MP20 Platform Controller Hub which supports a range of system-level
functions and I/O blocks. Additionally, a dedicated MSIC integrates power delivery and
battery charging, and consolidates a range of analog and digital components.

Viking Modular Solutions Offers DDR3 Small Form-Factor Modules
Viking Modular Solutions has announced a comprehensive portfolio of DDR3 small
form-factor ECC modules.These DDR3 modules are ideal for space constrained
applications typically found in the communications, embedded, industrial and storage
markets. The are targeted for industry standard platforms such as Blade Severs, Storage
Bridge Bays (SBB), AdvancedTCA, MicroTCA, PicoTCA, Advanced Mezzanine Card
(AMC) and Single Board Computers (SBCs) that require Error Correction (ECC), high
density and small form-factor module solutions. Mass production began in Q1 2010, and
are available in a variety of densities and speeds.

CoreExpress®-ECO Is Now Available with BSP for VxWorks RTOS
LiPPERT Embedded Computers’ CoreExpress-ECO evaluation kit is now available with
a board support package for the VxWorks 6.8 real time operating system. This enables
system developers to create hard real time applications for industrial and automotive
devices quickly and easily. The proven RTOS is certifiable for stringent safety standards,
and comes with many connectivity options like Ethernet, USB, serial communications,
and many types of peripheral devices. Customers with a VxWorks license may use the
fully documented BSP with their own carrier boards and embedded appliances.
The UL certified CoreExpress-ECO is a tiny, just 58 mm by 65 mm, advanced computer
on module. Equipped with an Intel Atom Z5xx processor, it comes with up to 2 GB
RAM. The evaluation kit contains a carrier board, power supply, LCD panel, and full
system documentation. It is available with several operating system options, among them
VxWorks, Windows CE, Windows XP Embedded, Linux, and QNX.

BCM Industrial ATX Motherboard Supports Intel Core i7, i5 and i3
vPro Processors
BCM Advanced Research’s BC57Q is based on the LGA1156 socket H with the Intel®
Q57 Express Chipset architecture. This Single-chip design integrates the Graphics
Processing Unit (GPU) and the memory controller into the Intel® Core™ i7, i5 and i3
desktop processors while combining the other functionality of the North and South
bridges into one single Controller Hub. This repartition of the processors and chipsets has
a new platform terminology called the Platform Controller Hub (PCH), providing a
Turbo Boost feature and Hyper-Threading technology that enables greater performances
and system improvements over the previous generations.
The BC57Q provides many built-in Intel® advanced technologies including the Intel®
vPro Technology, Intel® Active Management Technology 6.0 (iAMT 6.0), Intel® AntiTheft Technology, Intel® Trusted Execution Technology, Intel® Virtualization
Technology, Intel® Rapid Storage Technology, and Intel® Rapid Recovery Technology.
The known Trusted Platform Module 1.2 (TPM 1.2) is also supported for security
enhancement. “When equipped the Intel® Q57 Express Chipset and powered by the
Intel® Core™ i-series processors, the BC57Q becomes an Intelligent and powerful
computing system which will fulfills the needs of major performance hungry industrial
applications such as medical imaging, industrial automation, and advanced surveillance
systems”, said by Tom Skibinski, the VP of Sales and Marketing at BCM.

Arium Offers More Debug Visibility By Event Tracing
Arium announced its LX-1000 JTAG debugger with trace memory. The LX-1000 is the
next generation of Arium In-Target Probes (ITP) supporting a full range of Intel devices.
A modular design, the LX-1000 currently supports Intel devices, with other architecture
support available soon.The LX-1000 was designed to complement code execution trace
on Intel®-based platforms using Last Branch Registers (LBR), Cache-as-RAM (CAR),
and DRAM currently available on the ECM-XDP3 JTAG debugger. The LX-1000 adds a
fourth resource to tracing by storing events in on-board high-speed RAM. Trace depths
start at 2 GBytes, with optional 4 and 8 GBytes of storage. The LX-1000 captures events
from the eXtended Debug Port (XDP).
SourcePoint is Arium’s flagship debugger providing debug features supporting multiple
cores/threads benefiting BIOS, UEFI, device driver, and Linux developers. SourcePoint
is used by many Intel OEM/ODM developers worldwide. The software runs on both
Microsoft® Windows® and Linux hosts.

Axiomtek introduced its IMB205 ATX motherboard, designed for the new Intel® Core™

Emerson Extends Intel Core i7 Portfolio with 3U CompactPCI SBC
Emerson Network Power launched its first 3U CompactPCI® blade, the CPCI7203. This
is also the company's first product to support the new CompactPCI PlusIO specification
(PICMG® 2.30), which supports data transfer rates of up to 5 Gbps, a significant increase
over previous CompactPCI backplane specifications.
Designed for a wide range of high performance tasks in space-constrained environments,
the Emerson Network Power CPCI7203 is ideal for industrial, medical and
military/aerospace applications, such as railway control, semiconductor manufacturing,
robotics, image processing, vehicle communications and on-board flight information
systems.
It features up to 4GB soldered ECC DDR3 memory and 256KB non-volatile Ferroelectic
Random Access Memory (FeRAM). FeRAM does not require batteries or periodic
refreshes and offers many more read/write cycles and faster performance than flash
memory, which benefits critical non-volatile data storage, data logs and dynamic program
updates. The Trusted Platform Module (TPM) enhances data security and encryption

AE Linux Available on Cinnamon Bay SBC
Arium’s AE Linux has been ported onto ADI Engineering’s Intel Atom-based Cinnamon
Bay Single Board Computer (SBC) platform. Arium’s AE Linux distribution is targeted
for headless designs requiring a small file system and kernel footprint. The Cinnamon
platform is targeted at OEMs and embedded device developers who desire highperformance, highly-integrated computing platforms where they can directly boot AE
Linux from a microSD card, making for a very compact and low-cost solution.
The AE Linux root file system takes up just 117 Mbytes and the kernel image is 4.2
Mbytes for a total microSD memory requirement of 122 Mbytes. After boot, AE Linux
utilizes just 10.6 Mbytes and 172 Kbytes of buffers and cache out of a total Cinnamon
Bay capacity of up to 2GB of DRAM.

NEXCOM NISE 3500 Fanless PCs Support Intel® Core™ i7/i5 Mobile
Processor
NEXCOM extended its fanless product family with launch of the NISE3500 and NISE
3500M fanless PC, two new platforms which are based on the high performance Mobile
Intel® QM57 (Platform Controller Hub) and Intel® 32nm dual-core Core™ i7/i5 socket
The NISE 3500 series targets applications such as medical diagnostic equipment, medical
imaging, industrial automation, public infotainment and surveillance security
applications.
The series features Intel® Turbo Boost and Intel Hyper-Threading technologies (2 cores,
4 threads), as well as on-processor graphics and two DDRIII 800/1066 memory modules
up to 4GB. The Intel® Turbo Boost Technology provides an on-demand boost in the
clock speed for one processor core, if the other core is less utilized. The integrated
graphics engine supports resolutions up to 1080p HD video playback with a variety of
display interfaces, including one VGA, one DVI-I (DVI + VGA), internal dual channel
18/24-bit LVDS and optional HDMI outputs. The on-board Intel® 82577LM GbE LAN
controller offers high-speed network transmission rates, as well as remote asset

Lanner System Powered by Intel® Atom™ Processor D510
Lanner Electronics Inc. released the LEC-7100, a fanless industrial computer powered by
the new dual core Intel® Atom™ processor D510 at 1.66GHz. The LEC-7100 comes
equipped with VGA, DVI-D, 4 x USB and 2 x LAN ports, along with wireless
capabilities. This embedded system is designed to be easily deployable for a variety of
industrial and commercial applications.
The LUGE LEC-7100 includes multiple audio and video interfaces, two gigabit LAN
network ports, and two storage interfaces – CompactFlash Type I/II and SATA HDD.
Another stand out feature is the ability to communicate wirelessly. There is a 3G/GPS
module attached through a mini PCIe socket, as well as WiFi ready hardware. The robust

IBASE Reveals MI888 Fanless Mini-ITX Motherboard
IBASE Technology revealed its fanless MI888 Mini-ITX motherboard based on a twochip platform with either the single core Intel® Atom™ processor N450 or the dual core
Intel® Atom™ processor D510. These latest Intel Atom processors are integrated with
both a memory controller and an IGP graphics core, significantly cutting down board
space to create more flexible and stylish designs. Supporting 200MHz of GPU frequency,
the MI888 performs, using low power consumption, better hardware decode on graphics
intensive and multimedia applications for the digital signage, medical, POS/kiosk or
gaming industry.
The MI888 features a single-channel DDR2 integrated memory controller (with DDR2667MHz SO-DIMM on board) and display interfaces for VGA CRT and 18-bit single
channel LVDS output. The comprehensive I/O includes eight USB ports, two serial ATA
ports, four COM ports, 5.1CH high-definition audio, CF socket and PCI-E Gigabit LAN
