Estate Late Harold Gordon Jones, managed by Perpetual CARING FOR AGEING IN RURAL AUSTRALIA 2010 GUIDELINES Caring for Ageing in Rural Australia is a national small grants program offering over $275,000 in grants to assist in caring for the aged in rural Australia. Support from three philanthropic trusts makes this annual program possible. About the Benefactors J.O. & J.R. Wicking, Charles and Sylvia Viertel & the Estate of the Late Harold Gordon Jones: The J.O. & J.R. Wicking Trust was established in March 2003. John Wicking was one of the great modernisers of Australian business. Both John and Janet Wicking were notable philanthropists and benefactors to many institutions during their lifetime, particularly in the areas of vision impairment, the arts, and microsurgery. They had great concern for the needs of the ageing. The Trust welcomes applications from across Australia The Sylvia & Charles Viertel Charitable Foundation Charles Viertel had a strong commitment to helping people who helped themselves, offering a hand of support when the need was great. He gave quietly and without expectation of public recognition. Sylvia married Charles when they were both in their 40’s and she preferred to remain in the background as a home maker and keen gardener. Sylvia suffered from a debilitating eye disease that initiated Charles' interest in the establishment of a Chair of Ophthalmology at the University of Queensland. Their contribution to this program is for the benefit of rural Queensland. The Estate of the Late Harold Gordon Jones will support projects in the townships of the Gilgandra and Warren Shires, New South Wales. A list of specific towns is located on the back of this page.
