THE ATOM
1. THE NUCLEUS OF AN ATOM:
TERM
DEFINITION

The smallest particle into which an element can be
divided and still be the same substance.
nucleus
The tiny, extremely dense, positively charged
region in the center of an atom.
protons
The positively charged particles in the nucleus.
neutrons
The particles in the nucleus that have no charge.
electrons
The negatively charged particles found in all atoms.
quarks
The smaller particles that make up protons and neutrons.
