BRIEF
“EXPOPESCA DEL PACÍFICO SUR” (“EXPOFISHING OF THE SOUTH PACIFIC”) is the
only international show that focus on fishing, extracting, processing and exporting. It
will take place in the city of Manta with the backing of the Chamber of Commerce of
Manta and the Association of Tuna Fishing Companies of Ecuador (ATUNEC), and the
Official Sponsorship of the Government of Ecuador, the Ministry of Commerce,
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and CORPEI, The Ecuadorian Corporation for
Commerce.
This international fair aims to put across the commercial and political growing of the
country throughout a solid economic process as one of the key factors of an organized
global planning. The Port of Manta strengthens his position by generating jobs,
increasing the opportunities for business inside the country and encouraging Ecuador’s
international negotiations in the foreign trade field. At the same time, it takes part of
the flow of cash and capital’s attraction.
This event will gather equipment, supplies and services purveyors for the fishing field
worldwide, and fishing businessmen and top-ranking professionals of Ecuador, Latin
America and Europe.
It will also get together seafood producers and international importers and distributors,
as well as national and international companies, which provide the fishing industry with
goods and services.
In parallel with the exhibition, it will take place the Fishing Congress aimed at
directors, managers, heads and specialized staff of companies that make fishing
products.
“EXPOPESCA DEL PACÍFICO SUR” is a consolidated fair due to the global vision of the
Chamber of Commerce of Manta and ATUNEC, and the solid and constant support of
the institutions, which officially and privately under gird this project.
FISHING FIELD
Ecuador has a great variety of sea products due to its location in the Torrid Zone and
its position. It is the point where El Niño and Humboldt Currents converge. Fishing
therefore is one of the wealthiest and booming industries in Ecuador.
Financial estimates show that in our country, tuna yields one of the largest exporting
items. Some of the countries that purchase Ecuadorian sea products are: France,
Venezuela, Costa Rica, Spain, Italy, United States and The Netherlands. Manta is
outstanding because it has the greatest fishing fleet along the South Pacific shores.
Even Chile and Peru purchase Ecuadorian tuna.
Among the great variety of fish existing in Ecuador are: albacore, swordfish, maigre,
gold bream, mollusks including fresh and frozen mussels, clam and oysters with and
without shell, crustaceans, fish, and smoked, frozen and canned caviar. They all are
the most appreciated sea species in the global market.
Fishing has become the third driving force behind the Ecuadorian productive activities.
Big industrial ships and thousands of fishing boats are the foundation of the economy.
The fishing sector contributes with over 300 million dollars annually to the GDP of
Ecuador.
