A top ten list is a great way to mix facts and fun. You will begin by choosing your
subject and researching as many facts as you can about the subject. These should
range from basic facts to ones that go beyond general knowledge.
Here is an example on the subject of grizzly bears:
 Grizzly bears have brown fur
 They weigh over 1000 pounds
 They are big
 They can run 45 miles per hour
 They can smell a rotting carcass 2 miles away
Can you see how some facts are general knowledge and others are closer to “OOOH”
facts? Try to find as many “OOOH” facts as you can before writing your Top Ten.
Much of the humor in top ten lists comes from the title of the list. The title will set up
the reason for the list.
Here are some example titles:
 Top Ten Reasons Why I Want to Be a Grizzly Bear
 Top Ten Places to Eat if You Are a Toad
 Top Ten Reasons to Live in the Rainforest
 Top Ten Things to do if You Are a Lion

Reread all your facts. Put a star next to the facts with the greatest
“OOOH” factor. Add extra details to these facts to make them even
more amazing. You top ten list will be even better if you mix real facts
with silly or amazing ones.
Type your top ten list on the computer. Try adding an image to your
list to make it even more visual and show the reader what the list is
about.
