Janie bought a 25 pound bag of pecans when she was in Georgia and is going to repackage them
into smaller bags to share with her grandma and aunts for baking. She wants to make bags that are
2 1/3 pounds each. I’ll have you find how many complete bags she can make.
If you ever get confused on problems, you can try using compatible numbers to help decide which
operation you will use. For example, how many 2 pound bags can you make
from 24 lbs? _______What operation did you use?_________.
Now do the same operation with the two original numbers.______________ = ______ ____

a) Guido wants to make a box in which he can ship foot long rulers. He wants the finished box to
be 13" long by 5" wide and only 3" tall. Sketch a picture of a box below and label all three
sides.
b) Below is a blueprint he started for the box. (Note: The sketch is not drawn to scale in order
that I can make sure you know the correct answer.)
Use the box you drew to help you write the word top on the correct part of the box below. Then
label the bottom, front, and back sides below.
c) Label one of the sides which will be 13" long. Finish by labeling a 5" and a 3" side.
d) You know Guido needs to add seven extra tabs to his container before he cuts it out. Use your
ruler to neatly draw in enough tabs to be able to completely seal the box with glue. (It will not
have to be opened like the one you made.)
