10 Geometry Vocabulary Scale: the ratio between two sets of measurements Scale Drawing: a drawing that uses a scale to make an object smaller than or larger than the real object. Dimensions: the length, width, or height of a figure. Area: the area of a figure in the number of square units the figure encloses. Angle: two lines joining at one point Intersection: a point or set of points common to two or more geometric figures Cross Section: the intersection of a three-dimensional figure and a plane. Degree: the unit of measure for angles Acute Angle: an angle less than 90⁰. Right Angle: an angle equal to 90⁰. Obtuse Angle: an angle greater than 90⁰. Supplementary Angles: two angle are supplementary if the sum of their angle measures is 180⁰. Complementary Angles: two angles are complementary if the sum of the angle measures is 90⁰. Vertical Angles: vertical angles are formed by two intersecting lines and are opposite each other. Adjacent Angles: adjacent angles share the same vertex and a side, but have no interior points in common. Vertex of an Angle: the point of intersection of the rays that make up the sides of an angle. Congruent Angles: angles that have the same measure. Circumference: the distance around the circle. Diameter: a segment that passes through the center of a circle from one side to the other side (all the way across.) Radius: a segment that has an end point at the center and the other end point on one side (half way across.) Composite Solids: the combination of two or more figures into one object. Surface Area: the sum of the areas of all the sides of the shape. Volume: the number of cubic units needed to fill a solid figure. Polygon: a closed plane figure formed by three or more line segments that intersect only at their endpoints
