Project News June 2010 >>The new Survival Kit is ready! Getting involved in a Multilateral Project financed by the European Union’ s Lifelong Learning Programme or another type of European co-operation is not a perilous adventure better to be avoided, as, at first glance, the title Survival Kit may suggest. But many project actors will agree that the management of such projects poses multiple challenges: The project must be soundly planned and constantly re-planned A special project organisation must be established Comprehensive administrative and reporting regulations of the EU funding programme must be complied with Intercultural differences and pitfalls have to be dealt with An effective project team has to be formed out of a diverse group of people Virtual communication and collaboration through ICT tools have to be facilitated to bridge the distance between project partners Project activities have to be thoroughly evaluated to ensure high quality And project results need to be effectively disseminated and exploited to create a lasting impact on the field concerned. The Survival Kit provides support in meeting these challenges. The Survival Kit consists of two parts: Guidance publication Collection of project management tools: templates, examples and resources like partner agreements, planning forms, reporting sheets, checklists, or tools for evaluation and dissemination Both parts can now be downloaded from the project website: www.european-project-management.eu. At present, the English version is ready. German, French, Italian and Romanian language versions will also be available soon. >>The old and the new Survival Kit The present Survival Kit publication is the second of its kind. In 1999/2000 A Survival Kit for European Project Management was produced. It provided for the first time tailor-made project management advice to coordinators and partners of centralised Socrates projects. Although the project at the time had rather limited scope and resources the Survival Kit has been received very favourably by many stakeholders and is still in use. Despite the fact the Survival Kit became a valuable reference document and well-known brand in the European lifelong learning community, much of its content is now quite outdated after almost ten years since its production. Therefore a new guidance publication on project management was developed for the new programme period 20072013 by a project funded under Grundtvig Accompanying Measures. To this end, the Socrates Survival Kit was revised, substantially expanded, and in many parts completely re-written. >>Other tools supporting European cooperation Acting in professional and inter-institutional networks at local, national and European level is an inevitable necessity in order to meet complex educational and organisational challenges. Two publications, developed in projects funded by the Lifelong Learning Programme, provide guidance and practical learning materials for networking and network management. The Art of Networking and the Resource Pack for Networkers can be downloaded or ordered on the website: www.networks-in-education.eu >>Project partners die Berater Vienna, Austria www.dieberater.com University of Hull Hull, United Kingdom www.hull.ac.uk Humap Ltd Jyvaskyla, Finland www.humap.com CIMO Helsinki, Finland www.cimo.fi Institutul Intercultural Timisoara, Romania www.intercultural.ro >>Contact Holger Bienzle die Berater® Wipplingerstrasse 32 / 23-26 A-1010 Vienna Tel.: +43 1 532 45 45-0 Fax: +43 1 532 45 45-1145 E-Mail: [email protected] www.dieberater.com This project has been funded with support from the European Commission.
