Thorpe was selected from the list as John Whitehead and Mark Scott indicated that it would be of interest to members. The Librarian-in-charge suggested Logic: a very short introduction, by Graham Priest, as it has been much borrowed around Oxford but the Committee agreed that, although this would be of interest for general reading, it was not in depth enough to be useful for students studying the subject. Anne Ross suggested that Piracy: the intellectual property wars from Gutenberg to Gates, by Adrian Johns sounded like a useful book for the library. Joachim Steinberg who made the suggestion will bring his own copy to next week’s meeting so that they can make an informed decision. John Whitehead explained that he had come across a copy of John Henry Newman: doctor of the church, edited by Philippe Lefebvre which had previously been on the Member’s suggestions list. This donation will be retained and the other book on Newman, Newman’s unquiet grave, by John Cornwell will be removed from the Members’ suggestions list. The Committee agreed that another donation, Britain’s industrial future, by Ernest Benn was of less use to the library and so would not be retained. The new Lonely Planet Guide to California which will be published in April 2011 and the Rough Guide to Yosemite, Sequia and King’s Canyon from the Members’ suggestion list will be purchased from the upcoming Travel list budget. 10.
