Honors World History – Ms. Garratt
DUE DATE: April
8th,
2010
You and your a partner are the longest living humans. You have compiled a scrapbook that documents some of the
greatest historical events of the modern world. Your scrapbook is of great interest to historians because all of its
contents are primary source materials. These include newspaper clippings, advertisements, diary entries, patents,
tickets to exhibits and concerts, manifestos, receipts, stock certificates, first edition book covers, critical reviews of
musical and literary works, classified ads, posters, medical records, bills, obituaries, licenses, invitations, awards, report
cards, contracts, and so much more.
You will have approximately 6 months to assemble this historical bonanza. You are required to complete a certain
number of items for each unit we study. The required amount is listed on the handout. There will be periodic checks.
Some computer lab time will be available for this assignment over the course of the year.
Requirements:


You will create a neatly assembled scrapbook of primary sources for each unit.
Somewhere on the page will be a brief explanation of the significance of each item. For example, if you were
creating a receipt for Adam Smith’s book Wealth of Nations you would summarize who he is, his philosophy
and the significance of his book.
Use a variety of different types of primary sources. No more than one of the same type (i.e. receipt)
Strive for the authentic look.
Honors history quality work is required.
