Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Canada and the United states were one country? Surprisingly, there are a lot of similarities between the two countries. Yet they also have their differences. Looking at economy, history and government, and physical features and climate we can compare Canada and the United States. These two countries have maintained friendly relations because of there common characteristics. To begin with, we'll go over the economy of both the United States and Canada. The United States has a relatively different economy than Canada. Thus the U.S. has different climates that allow us to grow many diverse plants than Canada. The United States is a main export in Cotton that has been grown in the southeast for hundreds of years. The warm tropical climates of the south allow the United States to grow citrus fruits like oranges. The U.S. is also a leading exporter of peanuts. Canada is a under settled area that doesn't have a large population. Canada is producer of Paper and Hemp (a material used to make clothes and rope). Canada has a GDP of 1.5 trillion while the U.S. has a GDP of about 9 trillion. This difference in GDP is mainly related to the population. The United States and Canada have many similarities. They both produce Wheat, Beans, and livestock. They are both producers of everyday items like cars, electronics, and chemicals. Along with multiple other service jobs they both have food processing. An important export used all around the world is steel. There many ways that Canada's and the United State's economy are the same but they also have different and similar characteristics about there history and there government. The Unites states and Canada have a many differences and similarities. Canada’s massive size and cold climate affected its development. There was always a bitter rivalry between France and England. The greatest migration of the area began after the last ice age. Most of the migrants came across on an arctic land bridge. Most of the people stayed in what is now Alaska and the Canadian Arctic. The ancestors of these people were the Inuit (of Eskimos). The American Indian people later moved into the area that is now British Columbia and beyond. In 1791 after many differences in culture led to feuds the British Government split Canada into Ontario and Quebec. Over the next few decades Quebec City, Montreal, and Toronto developed into major cities. The Population grew steadily as immigrants cane from Great Britain. In 1867 the Dominion of Canada was formed, which was to be a loose confederation. The Dominion was self governed but remained a part of the British Government the city of Ottawa in Ontario became the capital. In 1872 the government began the construction of a transcontinental railroad. The main line was completed in 1885. Gold was later found in Yukon. After copper, zinc, and silver were found more towns and railroads were established. Most of the growth in Canada happened less than a hundred miles from the United States Border. In 1931 Canada was granted its independence from Britain. Canada as well as Great Britain has a parliamentary government, which is run by a parliament. There is smaller government systems within the main government led by prime ministers rather than a president. The United States started out as 13 British colonies, which later fought, in a revolutionary war to win their independence from Great Britain in 1776. The United States bought the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. The Texas annexation happened in 1819, the Oregon territory was gained in 1846, and the Mexican cession accrued in 1848. The United States is a democratic government. The president (the leader of the country) is elected by the citizens of the country. There are smaller governments inside the states that are still under control by the main government. Most of the settlers of the Unites States came From Europe, Asia, and Africa. Many Africans were brought here before the civil war to work on plantations as slaves. The United States and Canada have many differences in history and government, but what about the climate of the areas. Canada and The United states share a few climate regions but the have many different climates as well. The United States shares the Humid continental climate region which has hot summers and cold winters. They also share a semiarid climate, which has dry weather which only gets about 15 inches of rain a year. One of the climates that are mainly a part of Canada is the highland. The milder climates of the United States include the humid subtropical, and Mediterranean climate zones. The southern tip of Florida and Hawaii has tropical climates. Canada has mainly colder climates that include the subarctic and tundra, which is rarely settled. The western coast of the United States and Canada share the marine west coast climate zone that gets a lot of annual precipitation. The United States and Canada have shared and different climate zones. If the unites states and Canada were one country the climate regions would be the same because boundaries don’t change the weather of an area. The economy of the two countries is very different which would be a large change that would change everything. The government and the history of the two countries are very different. There would be many changes for the people of both countries if the United States and Canada were one country.
