Job Description DEPARTMENT Software Delivery JOB TITLE Solutions Architect REPORTS TO Principle Solutions (Data & Architect (Data & Applications) Applications) The Solutions Architecture team within Software Delivery is focussed on the Data and Applications architecture domains, working closely with Business and Infrastructure Architects to provide an Enterprise Architecture capability within the society. The main purposes of the Solutions Architecture team are: To improve business and IT efficiency and agility through: The provision of cost effective, flexible solutions aligned to desired business outcomes Facilitating the understanding of our existing estate through the creation and maintenance of high quality reference architecture To define and maintain architectural principles and policies and work with software development to improve standards and frameworks that guide change activity. To provide a solid framework within which software change activity is undertaken through: The definition and maintenance of architectural principles and policies Collaboration with the software development teams to define and maintain development standards To deliver architectural designs for change activity aligned to Society and IT strategies, ensuring adherence to architectural principles and policies. To provide assurance over software change activity through the governance of fine grained software designs. For significant change initiatives: Collaborate with Business and Infrastructure Architects to facilitate a cohesive approach to architectural change Prepare coarse grained architecture definitions for application and data domains (baseline, gap and target states) for all appropriate solution options Provide gap, risk and complexity analysis for all appropriate solution options Communicate all options to appropriate stakeholders to form recommendations for the final solution Present options to Enterprise Architecture Working Group with recommendations for the way forward Govern the fine grained application and data design delivered by software developers Involvement in the creation and maintenance of course grained reference architecture for application and data domains within our current estate Involvement in the creation and maintenance of architectural procedures and policies (i.e. tactical statements directing architectural changes in line with the architectural principles) within the application and data domains Involvement in the establishment and maintainenance of a view point library (within the application and data domains) to guide the creation of architectural artefacts Involvement in the promotion of quality standards and development frameworks Involvement in the development of and adherence to departmental MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES BAND BMP1 V1.0 December/2014 INTERNAL & EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE RESPONSIBILITIES FOR RESOURCES HUMAN/FINANCIAL/ PHYSICAL procedures Provision of support to Software Delivery and Change Delivery colleagues. Experience in designing robust scalable solutions incorporating multiple applications and data sources. Ability to construct and deconstruct complex systems to provide information to stakeholders with different concerns. A broad technological understanding of languages, frameworks, design patterns and architectural strategies. A Solutions Architect is expected to have a high degree of expertise in several of the above skills.
