Information for Community Pharmacists Emerade® pre-filled pens The SPC and PIL for Emerade® pre-inspection window filled pens have been updated with information regarding checking the solution. The expiry date has been reduced from 30 months to 18 months. The costs of the 150mcg and 300mcg Emerade® has been reduced to reflect prices that are less than the 150mcg and 300mcg Epipen® pens. Pharmacists delivering vaccination services should check the solution periodically through the inspection window of the unit by lifting the label, indicated by an arrow, to make sure the solution is clear and colourless. If the solution is discoloured or contains particles, it should be discarded. The prescription has to be endorsed appropriately if a “special” is dispensed which would include the cost price. If the cost of the special seems disproportionate to the item, please contact the GP practice or your local Medicines Management Team to discuss a possible alternative, so that good use is made of NHS funds.
