Human Growth and Development Vocabulary

Zygote -After a female egg is fertilized, it becomes known as
a zygote...
2. Embryo-A fertilized egg that has begun cell division
3. Fetus-In human beings, the unborn young from the eighth
week of pregnancy to birth.
4. Implantation- The attachment of the early embryo to the
lining of the womb.
5. Infancy- The earliest period of childhood, especially before
the ability to walk has been acquired.
6. Childhood- The biological and psychological changes that
occur in human beings between birth and the end of
adolescence.
7. Adolescence- The time period between the beginning of
puberty and adulthood.
8. Young adulthood- stage of development from the age of
18-24.
9. Adulthood- the period of time in your life after your physical
growth has stopped and you are fully developed
10. Amniotic sac- A thin membrane that completely surrounds
the embryo and contains a protective fluid.
11. Placenta- Is attached by the umbilical cord and provides
oxygen and nutrients for the baby.
12. Umbilical cord- The flexible cordlike structure connecting a
fetus at the abdomen with the placenta.
13. Puberty- The time of life when a child experiences physical
and hormonal changes that mark a transition into adulthood
