Ecosystems
What is an ecosystem?
An ecosystem is a habitat where animals, plants, landscape, and climate interact
with each other. All of these components work together with components of other
ecosystems to create biomes and as the biomes multiply, it becomes biosphere.( Natasha )
In other words, an ecosystem is a group of organisms which share the same
habitats land, and all of its resources. Abiotic and biotic features cover the whole land
within that habitat. An ecosystem has different relationships among the living things in a
community. Ecosystems start out as a population of a certain species, which will attract
other species until it becomes a community. As the community expands it gradually
becomes an ecosystem. (Jazmin)
What is an ecosystem composed of?
An ecosystem is composed of a combination of minerals, organic matter (plants,
soil, and resources) and abiotic and biotic organisms. It is thought to be one of our most
fundamental natural resources. (Greg)
What affects an Ecosystem?
An ecosystem is positively affected by conserving our water and electricity and
using more environmentally friendly technology such as fuel efficient cars and wind
turbines. An ecosystem is negatively affected by water erosion, and lack of soil
conservation. (Natasha)
Examples of Ecosystems Part 1: Aquatic Ecosystem
There are three types of Aquatic ecosystems: Marine, Freshwater, and Pond.
Marine ecosystems cover about 71% of the earth’s surface, and 97% of the earth’s water.
They provide 32% of the world’s net production. The only thing that separates marine
and freshwater is the dissolved compounds such as sea water, sodium, chlorine, and
especially salt. Under this category fall these ecosystems: oceanic (shallow waters),
profundal (deep water), benthic (the floor of the water), intertidal (between high and low
tides), and hydrothermal vents (food sources). (Jazmin)
Examples of Ecosystems Part 2: Desert Ecosystem
In the desert, it is sunlight all day, and a light musk during the night. Most plants
in the world need a lot of water, some sun light and proper soil. Plants in the desert have
hardly any water, sand for soil, and all sun light. The plants still tend to survive. Animals
in the desert are kangaroo rats, jack rabbits, great horned owls, coyotes, bobcats, snakes,
lizards and other cold blooded animals. (Greg)
An ecosystem is where abiotic and biotic factors come together. An ecosystem is
composed of natural features and an ecosystem is effected by conserving our water and
electricity.(Natasha)
