Heart Project Guidelines Team #____________ Period_____________ Goals: Your team will work together to produce the required arrows and signs for this project, using only the materials provided, in a neat and creative manner. Work on the signs should be divided evenly among all group members. After all signs and arrows are created, you will go in the hallway to the heart model and practice identifying the structures of the heart. As a team, you will use the arrows to indicate the flow of oxygen-poor and oxygen-rich blood. You will also walk through the heart model in the correct direction of blood flow. Next week, you will be quizzed individually on the parts of the heart. Part of the quiz will require you to trace the path of blood flow by walking and talking through the heart model. Materials: scissors red, blue and black markers 1 sheet each of blue and red construction paper 16 sheets of white construction paper 1 arrow model 1 folder for storage Products: 3 arrows made of red paper (oxygen-rich blood flow) 3 arrows made of blue paper (oxygen-poor blood flow) 1 sign each for the following heart structures: right ventricle pulmonary valve superior vena cava pulmonary artery left ventricle aortic valve inferior vena cava pulmonary veins right atrium tricuspid valve septum right lung left atrium bicuspid valve aorta left lung © 2006 JessB.org Heart Project Rubric Team #____________ Period_____________ USE OF MATERIALS 4 Materials were used efficiently and effectively; all guidelines were followed. 3 Materials were used efficiently; all guidelines were followed. 2 Team required extra materials; most guidelines were followed. 1 Team required a large amount of extra materials and disregarded guidelines. Write an essay that addresses the following points: How did you feel about your team? Did everyone share responsibilities equally? Did everyone cooperate or was there some tension between group members? Which part of the project was the easiest? Which was the most difficult? How much did you learn about the heart? Do you learn better by participating in handson projects like this one or would you rather study by using the textbook? If you could change one thing about this project to make it better, what would you change? Use the space below to outline your thoughts and roughly write down the main ideas you would like to include in your essay. You may ask for help outlining or editing a rough draft at this point. Then, on a separate sheet of lined paper, write a final draft of your essay. Staple this sheet to your final draft.
