Kamalei Correa History Period 2 1/9/12 History Day Essay The beginning of World War II involved some of the biggest countries fighting against one another. They won because they had more allies and they had better campaigns and strategies. World War II strategies in Europe were used to the lend lease act which was created by Franklin D. Roosevelt. Franklin did this so he could help our wounded allies and keep them fighting in the war. During the war all these conflicts were going on so they also created the Atlantic charter, which helped find allies to help Britain and the United States in the war. World War II strategies in the pacific were to heavily bomb Japan. This strategy was to show how powerful the Americans were and to not fight against them. Between both the pacific and Europe campaigns the Atlantic charter, and the lend lease agreement proved to be the key to their winning of the war, and also solving their problems. The Atlantic charter and lend lease agreement in Europe, so all these problems then escalated between the two wars and caused them fighting against each other. President Roosevelt created this Lend act to help out Britain without getting into the war, because the United States still wanted to stay neutral. This lend lease act allowed the united states to lend anything to Britain what they wanted, and that they could send their ships to the united states to be repaired, and to train their people on how to fix them. This allowed Britain to make the necessary repairs to their key pieces of equipment, and to fix it right the first time. If the United States destroyed Britain then they would have to pay for it, but if it wasn’t destroyed they returned it after the war then the consequence would be less severe. The Britain had received more than 1 Billion dollars in help but they just didn’t offer this to the British they even offered it to china against their war with the Japanese. With the help of the Atlantic charter it halted the expansion of the axis powers. The Atlantic charter help free the French, and also helped the exiled governments of Belgium, Greece, Norway, Poland, and the Netherlands because they all agreed to the Atlantic charter. With all the help from all of the Atlantic charter groups. This would allow Britain and America to beat the axis powers. On December 7, 1941 the Japanese launched a attack against the American’s at Pearl Harbor, which caused the American fleet to lose thousands of sailors, and a lot of important ships. The Japanese strategy did not stop there, they took that advantage and their military took over Guam, and they also took over Wake Island. The President of the United States of America has determined, pursuant to the act of Congress that the defense of the United Kingdom against brutality is vital to the defense of the United States of America, But the Japanese luck ran out when the tides changed the American Naval victory in the battle of Midway in June. After this victory the American fleet kept pushing forward, and pushing the Japanese back to Okinawa which they later conquered. To show that the Japanese were wrong for bombing Pearl Harbor, the United States air force dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city called Hiroshima. It was business because in that city there were many key factories that provided weapons, and tanks and they were all destroyed, then after the atomic bomb the Soviet Union began to declare war on Japan, and Japan finally agreed to surrender on August of 1945. Later the U.S got word they moved in forces to occupy japan, and then Japan formally surrendered to the United States. Again the United States and its allies won the war again because of the lend lease act, they helped the United States and ultimately finally stopped the war. The war in Europe was against the Nazis, and in the pacific the war was against Australia, and japan during World War II. At the end of the war the Crimea Conference was a conference, which involved the heads of the governments of the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and the Union of Soviet Republics. The meeting let all the heads resolve their problems and ultimately let they vent out what they wanted, and needed after the war. One of the differences between Europe and the Pacific was that in Europe they had the Atlantic charter. Really the only similarities are that they both had the lend Lease act. The pacific and Europe campaigns the Atlantic charter, and the lend lease agreement proved to be the key to their winning of the wars, and also solving their problems. If they never had President Franklin Roosevelt the United States probably might have lost World War II. The way that the British and Americans won their wars was by standing together, and helping each other out. They also won because they had the best strategies and leadership that they could ask for. President Franklin played the biggest role in World War II because he had asked Teamsters General President Dan Tobin to travel to Great Britain and report back on how British unions were helping to win the war. Tobin then urged the U.S. labor movement to emulate the British approach suspending all labor discord in the face of the Axis' threat to world freedom. The Atlantic charter was mostly a list of peace objectives, which were agreed upon by U.S President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. The objectives were put in place at the end of World War II, on august 14, 1941. The goals were mostly about Roosevelt’s four freedoms. An example of The charter was The lend –lease act which was a plan under which the united states would extend financial assistance to the allied powers for fighting the axis powers in world war II. The world leaders wanted to make it clear that their countries would not seek to gain from the outcome of the war. During the Atlantic charter both Great Britain and the United States sought new territories, and both countries respected the right of the people of every country. For both Britain and the United States they wanted a general security, which would ensure peace. The Lend- lease agreement was between the United State of America and The United Kingdom of Great Britain, and Northern Ireland. They all had a mindset that they could engage in a cooperative undertaking by enduring world peace and securing orders under the law. For Example in article one “The United States of America will continue to supply the government of the united kingdom with such defense articles, defense services, and defense information as the president shall authorize to be transferred or provided.” This article is mostly just talking about how the United States of America will help defend the United Kingdom. Another example is in article two “ the government of the United Kingdom will continue to contribute to the defense of the united states of America and the strengthening thereof and will provide such articles, services, facilities or information as it may be in position to supply.” This article is mostly talking about how the United Kingdom will help defend the United States when they are in need of defense. Another example in Article three “The government of the united kingdom will not without the consent of the president of the united states of America transfer title to, or possession of, any defense article or defense information transferred to it under the act or permit the use thereof by anyone not an officer, employee, or agent of the government of the united kingdom.” This was a great step in American history; establishing the First United States President. On April 30, 1789, George Washington took the oath of office and became the First United States President. He delivered his oath of speech to a joint session of Congress, assembled in Federal Hall in the Nation’s new capitol, New York City. George Washington urged Congress after becoming President to establish the Bill of Rights to the Constitution, which would express the “reverence for the characteristic rights of freedom and a regard for the public harmony…” George Washington was originally the Commander in Chief, but because of his great leadership and loyalty to his country he was warmly welcomed and accepted to be the President. He was accepted by many of the colonists because of the brilliant success he had in leading his troops during the American Revolution. Ever since President Washington, every other President till today has followed his example and delivered an inaugural address. The Residence Act of 1790, officially titled “An Act for Establishing the Temporary and Permanent Seat of the Government of the United States,” and was passed on July 16, 1790, and selected a site on the Potomac River as the permanent capital in ten years times. This Act was due to an argument and was a political argument. Also, this act designated Philadelphia as the temporary capital for a period of ten years. The Residence Act was the result of a compromise reached between Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton and James Madison concerning the permanent location of the federal capital. In exchange for locating the new capital on the Potomac River, Madison agreed not to block legislation mandating the assumption of the states’ debts by the Federal government. Germany invades Poland from September 1. 1939- October 6, 1939, and shortly after Britain, France, and Canada declared war against Germany on September 3. One more force joined Germany’s side and it was the Soviet Union on September 17. The invasion of Poland marked the beginning of the World War II in Europe. The reason why World War II started was because Germany had violated the Versailles Treaty. The polish army was defeated in a matter of weeks after the invasion. The Polish surrendered because of heavy shelling and bombing on their defenses. One example of how serious Germany was the German Government and the German people refuse to let alone to fulfill, demands in the nature of ultimate made by the British Government. Poland remained under German occupation until January 1945.
