Germ Layers – Notes Ectoderm - Primary germ layer in the embryo of multicellular animals that gives rise to epidermis and nervous system. Examples of structures: Brain Spinal Cord Nerves Outer Skin Eye Cup and Lens Nose and Ears Mesoderm - One of the three germ layers in triploblastic (embryos with three primary germ layers) animals. It forms the layer of cells lying between ectoderm and endoderm in the gastrula, and gives rise to muscle and connective tissues. In vertebrates, it also gives rise to the blood, the vascular system and heart, much of the kidney, and the dermis. Examples of structures: Skeleton Muscles Excretory System Inner Skin Reproductive Organs Circulatory System Endoderm - Primary germ layer in the embryo of multicellular animals that gives rise to the digestive tract, respiratory tract and associated glandular epithelium. Examples of structures: Pancreas Liver Lungs Lining of Digestive Tract
