ZORK Genetics
Background: A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, a great population of beings lived on a
planet called. The inhabitants were known as Zorkonians. They are made up of 10 basic
genes that code for their appearance. Each of these genes is made up of 2 alleles. With this
in mind, there are 1,024 different possible combinations for their appearance! Use the
following chart to complete the Punnett problems.

MONOHYBRID OR SINGLE-TRAIT CROSSES: For #1-6, complete the Punnett square and the table
for the genotype/phenotype ratios (percentages).
1. Cross a heterozygous green skinned zork with a yellow skinned zork.
2. Cross a homozygous two horned zork with a heterozygous two horned zork.
3. Cross a heterozygous green haired zork with a heterozygous green haired zork.
4. Cross a green lipped zork with a heterozygous purple lipped zork.
5. Tork, who is homozygous for tall marries Vorkina, who is short. What are the possible genotypes
and phenotypes for their offspring?
6. Tork and Vorkina have two children. One is a boy name Torky, and the other is a girl named Vorki.
Many years later, Torky meets and marries a girl named Morkalina who is short. What are the
possibilities for the height of their offspring?
7. Vorki, the daughter, meets a zork named Spork who is heterozygous for tall.
• If they have 12 kids, how many would we predict would be tall? ________
• How many would we predict would be short? ________
8. Torky has green hair, and Morkalina has yellow hair. They have four children, and all of them have
green hair.
• What genotype must Torky be? ___________
9. Sprok and Vorki both have three eyes.
• How many of their offspring would be predicted to have one eye? ________
• How many of their offspring would be predicted to have three eyes? ________
10. What are the predicted genotypes and phenotype ratios for the F1 generation of a cross between
two zorks who are heterozygous for both fangs and horns?
• What are the possible gametes (sperm/egg) that each parent can make:
• genotypes:
• phenotype ratio:
