高一英语 The Olympic Games NSEFC 必修模块 2 Unit 2 Period 5(教案) 一、教学课型:综合技能课 二、教学内容分析 “语言运用” (Using Language)部分通过一个希腊神话故事来引导学生进行听说 读写的综合训练。宗教和神话传说源远流长是人类最初的文学形态,而希腊神话是西 方文明的摇篮。本课时的教学对学生了解西方文化和英语语言发展是很有帮助的。 三、教学设计的总体思路 在多媒体教学环境下,先让学生了解一些希腊神话中的著名人物及故事。而后展 示 Hippomenes, the Greek Goodness of love 和 Atlanta 的图片,让学生对他们之间所发 生的故事进行推测,通过阅读课文验证学生自己的推测。并再激发学生对故事结局了 解的好奇心,引导学生通过听来验证。最后让事先准备好的 4 个同学表演这个课本剧, 这更激发了学生的学习兴趣,以及对西方文化有更深的了解。 Teaching goals 教学目标 1、Target language 目标语言 a、重点词汇 glory, bargain, hopeless, foolish, pain, one after another b、重点句子 ① Her father said that she must marry, so Atlanta made a bargain with him. ②She made as many men as she could share her pain. ③He threw the golden apples one after another. ④No one will be pardoned. 2、Ability goals 能力目标 ·Enable the students to talk about the story of Atlanta ·Enable the students to develop the strategy of predicting a story according to the title, pictures and context. ·Enable the students to be more imaginative. ·Enable the students to be more interested in western culture and know something about mythology of ancient Greek 3、Teaching important points 教学重点 Get the general idea of The Story of Atlanta, predict the ending of the Story of Atlanta and then listen to check. 4、Teaching difficult point 教学难点 Act the text play of The Story of Atlanta Teaching procedures Step 1. Pre -- reading Activities Activity 1: Talk about stories or persons in ancient Greek: Show some pictures of persons in ancient Greek to the students and ask them to talk about them. Activity 2: Match the names in some Greek mythology to their description. Ask students to match the description to the names Prometeus 普罗米修斯 a being with a human face but a lion body Sphinx 斯芬克斯 a son of the former chief God Pandora 潘多拉 the Chief God who governed the world Zeus 宙斯 a beautiful girl with every ill and evil thought and deed Hera 天后 the wife of Zeus who governed the love. Activity 3: Predict according to the pictures Ask students to look at the pictures of the Greek Goddess of love, Atlanta and Hippomenes and do some predicting what will happen between them. After predicting, ask students to open the books and read the text The Story of Atlanta and check. Step 2: While-reading Activities Activity 4: Scan the passage and find the answers. Ask students to scan the passage and find the answers to the following questions. 1. Who was Atlanta? 2. What was she good at? 3.What problem did she have? 4. Who did she want to marry? 5. At first what did Hippomenes think of the men who run against Atlanta? 6. How could Hippomenes win Atlanta? Activity 5: Decide whether the statements true or false and give a reason. Ask students to read the statements in Exercise 1 on Page 14 first and then read the passage quickly. Decide whether they are true or false and give a reason. Activity 6 Language focus Ask students to read the passage again, find the passive voice sentences and underline them. Match the new words to the definitions glory(n.) stupid, laughable bargain(n) praise and honor hopeless(adj.) an agreement, esp. one to do something in return for something else foolish(adj.) showing or giving no hope pain(n.) suffering; great discomfort of the body or mind Step 3: Post-reading activity Activity 7: Have a discussion What will happen during the race between Hippomenes and Atlanta? Who do you think will win the race? Step4: Listening activity Activity 8: Predict, listen and check Before listening, ask students to do Exercise3 on Page15. Then listen to the tape and check whether they were correct. Step 5: Acting activity Activity 9: Act Ask the four students to put the text The Story of Atlanta on stage (They have been asked to prepare before class) Step 6: Homework 1. The rest of class prepare acting the text play of the Story of Atlanta in groups of four in the next class. 2. Go to the library to read or get online to search in order to find more information on the ancient Greek mythology. Take notes of your finding and report to your classmates in the next class. 3.Have a discussion with your partner about this question----If you were Hippomenes, what would you do to win the race?
