Snakes & Ladders:
Final Exam Review
DIRECTIONS: Each group rolls one die. Whoever rolls the highest
number gets to play first. The teacher will pick a problem for the
group to answer. Everyone in the class is to work on that
problem, but only the group whose turn it is, may answer. If the
group gets the answer correct, then one person rolls the die and
moves that group’s game piece. If the group gets it wrong, then
the next group gets a chance to answer. The winner is the first
group whose game piece reaches the top square.
1. A total of 540 customers, who frequented an ice cream
shop, responded to a survey asking if they preferred
chocolate or vanilla ice cream.
2. What is the graph of y = (1/4)x3
 308 of the customers preferred chocolate ice cream.
 263 of the customers were female.
 152 of the customers were males who preferred
vanilla ice cream.
What is the probability that a customer chosen at random is a
male or prefers vanilla ice cream?
3. Which rotation will carry a regular hexagon onto itself?
A) a 30 degree counterclockwise rotation
B) a 90 degree counterclockwise rotation
C) a 120 degree counterclockwise rotation
D) a 270 degree counterclockwise rotation
4. Your little sister has made up a card game where different
types of cards are worth different points. Face cards, F, are
worth 16 points, cards with red numbers, R, are worth 9 points,
and cards with black numbers, B, are worth 6 points.
Suppose you have 6 face cards, 3 cards with red numbers, and
2 cards with black numbers.
What algebraic expression models the total number of points
that you have in your hand? How many points do you have?
A) 6F + 3R + 2B
C) 6F + 3R + 2B
5. Let f(x) = 3x − 6 and g(x) = x − 2. Find f(x)/g(x)

6. Multiply the rational expressions and simplify. State any
excluded values. Factor first!
7. A jet ski company charges a flat fee of $27 plus $2 per
hour to rent a jet ski. Another company charges a fee of
$16.50 plus $3.75 per hour to rent the same jet ski. Find the
number of hours for which the costs are the same.
8. You invest $1600 at an annual interest rate of 4.6%
compounded continuously. How much will you have in the account
after 4 years?
9. The function y= -16t2+ 486 models the height y in feet of a
stone t seconds after it is dropped from the edge of a
vertical cliff. How long will it take the stone to hit the
ground? Round to the nearest hundredth of a second.
10. Using the function below, how is the graph transformed
from the parent function?
11. Congruent squares, with side lengths of x, are cut from
the corners of a 12-inch-by-16-inch piece of cardboard to
form an open box. Write equation that models the surface
area, y, of the open box after the corners are cut away.
y = log2x – 3
A) left 3 units
B) right 3 units
C) up 3 units
D) down 3 units
12. A high school soccer team is going to Columbus, Ohio to see
a professional soccer game. A coordinate grid is superimposed
on a highway map of Ohio. The high school is at point (3, 4) and
the stadium in Columbus is at point (7, 1).
What is the approximate distance between the high school and
the stadium? (One unit 6.4 miles.)

13. A large totem pole in the state of Washington is 120 feet
tall. At a particular time of day, the totem pole casts a 250foot-long shadow. Find the measure of
to the nearest
degree.
