Research interests My current research interests focus on three topics: Connection patterns of biological networks, Extreme value distributions, and Telemetry using filtering techniques. Understanding the influence of long distance neuronal connections in circadian oscillations is one of my main goals. Recently popularized notion of small world networks is thought to explain faster than anticipated synchronization of circadian cell oscillations. However, since it is generally believed that these long distance interconnections occur at random, a fundamental understanding of how they help, is being sought after. We derived expressions for dominant eigenvalues of transient dynamics as random variables, and used the theory of extreme value statistics to estimate the relevant parameters. We are currently in process of advancing this theory. Study focuses on general oscillatory dynamical systems modelled after random graphs and working on deriving formulas for the probability distribution of the first two eigenvalues. Networks of interest are those that occur in life sciences, e.g. cortical oscillations, life cycles in ecological systems with weak connections such as playa networks in the Southern Great Plains, and in engineering, e.g. large scale microelectromechanical or nanomechanical networks.
