(Knows how many words are in a sentence) Segments a 2-3 multi syllabic word into syllables (Knows how many syllables are in a word) Segments CVC words into sounds, (Knows how many sounds are in a word) Blends sounds to words. (Given the sounds the slow way, can put together in the fast way) Knows sounds for all consonant diagraphs. (sh, ch, th, qu, ck) Oral Language Uses: later developing colors, primary shapes and geometric solid shapes. Spatial/ positional sequential, temporal, quality, quantity/ measurement concepts. Categorizes by two characteristics Can explain why two objects are alike and how they are different. Knows sounds for short vowels Uses contracted negatives (don’t wasn’t) and indefinite pronouns (anyone, something) Can create word families from short vowels. Uses, verbs: may, will, do, might, would, should, and could; interrogative reversals: “ Is that”. Uses conjunctions: but, or, because, if and then. Sentence length at 5-7 words, complexity increases due to use of noun and verb phrases and beginning use of clauses. Example: The red ball (NP) The ball that is red (NC). Comprehension Knows first and last name and can recognize in print. Follows a three-step direction with visual support. Can identify the setting, characters, problem and outcome of a story. Tells from memory main events of a story in sequential order. Gives details to support literal “ wh questions.” Makes some inferences and predictions based on illustrations and prior knowledge. Fluency Spelling Written Language Knows 50 sight words at the pre primer level. Holds pencil correctly. Uses directionality and spacing Makes correct letter formations Reproduces word like sequences and can copy words. Spells semi-phonemic Uses basic end punctuation. Knows to capitalize first word in a sentence, first and last names. Verbalizes a complete thought about a picture. Math Counts, uses and groups numbers up to 100. Skip counts by 2,5,10. Creates and extends patterns, identifies shapes with symmetry. Uses objects to solve real world problems using addition and subtraction rules Associates verbal and written word for numerals up to 31. Uses objects and tools to measure. Tells time on the hour and uses the calendar to order evens. Recognizes names of coins Knows fractions: equal, halves and fourths.
