DEFINE THE FOLLOWING TERMS:
Nares – The opening to the nose
Tongue – Organ that contains the chemo receptors for taste
Head – Not the tail
Hoof - Feet
Umbilical cord – Connects baby to mother supplying the baby with food and oxygen
Urogenital opening – Opening to the urethra and vagina
Teats – Site of lactation
Tail – I hope you know
Scrotum – Sack that contains the testis
Genital papilla – Covering to the female urogenital opening
Pinna - Ear
Eye – Organ that senses light
Mouth – First organ of the digestive system, adds moisture and enzymes to the food
Teeth – Used to masticate food
Hard palate – Hard part on the front top of the mouth
Soft palate – Soft part on the rear top of the mouth
Anus – Opening to the end of the digestive system
Larynx – The voice box
Esophagus – Tube that connects the mouth to the stomach
Trachea – Tube that the air passes through to get to or from the lungs
Liver – Produces enzymes to break down toxins and bile for the emulsion of fats
Gall bladder – Stores bile
Stomach – Stores and sterilizes food
Pancreas – Produces insulin
Duodenum – First section of small intestine that neutralizes stomach acid
Bladder – Stores urine
Diaphragm – Muscle that contracts to increase the volume of the lungs to breathe
Spleen – Produces RBCs and helps in the defense of the body with the immune system
Large intestine – Site of water absorption and concentration waste product into fecal material
Small intestine – Site of nutrient absorption
Rectum – Site of fecal material storage
Mesentery – Connects the small intestine and contains the blood vessel for nutrient absorption
Ovary – Site of egg production
Fallopian tube – Carries eggs to uterus, site of fertilization
Uterus – Site of fetus development
Vagina – Birth canal, site of sperm introduction
Urethra – Tube that carries urine from bladder to outside body
Kidney – Regulates water in body and site of toxin removal
Ureter – Tube that carries urine from kidney to bladder
Testis – Site of sperm production
Epididymis – Stores sperm
Spermatic duct – Tube that carries sperm to urethra
Penis – Male reproductive organ
Heart – Pumps blood throughout the body
Pericardial sac – Tissue that surrounds the heart to protect it from shock
Lung – Site of respiration; oxygen is absorbed and carbon dioxide is removed
Aorta – The main artery from the heart to the body
Atrium (Right/left) – First chamber in the heart; right is from the body, left is from the lungs
Ventricle (Right/left) – Last chamber in the heart; right is to the lungs, left is to the body
Vena cava – The main vein from the body to the heart
