History of English Literature
In pairs you will be given one of the following periods of
English Literature to research and to prepare an interesting
powerpoint presentation on + you will also prepare a
condensed version of your research so that everyone will
have 1 sheet of A4 with information on:
 Old English Literature + Middle English Literature (up
to 1500)
 Tudor and Stuart Literature – including Shakespeare
(1500-1700)
 Augustan and Romantic Literature – including Gothic
Literature (1700-1837)
 Victorian Literature until 1880
 Late Victorian Literature (1880-1900) + Ends and
beginnings (1901-1919) – including the war poets
 From Post War – Post War (1920-1955) - including
Modernism
 New Beginnings 1955-1980 – also include contemporary
writers + post-modernism
 American Literature
 Greek/Roman Literature
With your allocated area you must produce the following:
 A contextual overview of the period (ie: historical and
cultural events)
 Some key writers and key texts from the period
 Some key features of the literary movement/s of the
period
 The role of female writers during the period
