a. Describe Germany’s aggression in Europe and Japan’s aggression in Asia.
b. Describe major events in the war in both Europe and the Pacific; include Pearl
Harbor, Iwo Jima, D-Day, VE and VJ Days, and the Holocaust.
c. Discuss President Truman’s decision to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and
Nagasaki.
d. Identify Roosevelt, Stalin, Churchill, Hirohito, Truman, Mussolini, and Hitler.
e. Describe the effects of rationing and the changing role of women and

2. Why did the U.S. get involved in WWII?
The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor brought the United States into World War II.

The atomic bomb was the most powerful weapon. It was used by the United States on
Japan. President Truman made the decision to use it to end the war quickly.

The mass murder of Jews by Hitler and the Nazis was known as the Holocaust.
8. What did women do during WWII and what kind of jobs did they hold?
Women took jobs outside of the home. Many women took jobs in factories to make war
supplies.
9. Who was Rosie the Riveter?
Rosie the Riveter was a nickname given to the many women who worked in jobs that only men
had held before.
10. How did the role of African Americans change because of WWII?
African Americans worked in factories and served in the military.
11. Who were the Tuskegee Airmen?
They were a group of African American pilots that flew many successful missions over Italy.

Countries around the world affected by the fighting, shortage of supplies, casualties, etc.
13. What group of people did the Holocaust affect the most?
The Holocaust affected the Jewish people the most because millions of Jews were killed.
14. How was life different for men, women, and children during WWII?
Life was different for everyone during the war due to rationing.
15. How did the atomic bomb affect the outcome of WWII?
The atomic bomb ended the war with Japan.
