What’s the deal with the packet?
1. Everything that you need to study for your test will be in this packet.
2. You’re receiving part of the packet on the first day that we start Romeo and Juliet and you will receive the
rest over the next few weeks.
3. At the end of the unit, you will turn in the packet for a TEST GRADE! All you have to do is keep up with
the packet and turn it in completed at the end in order to receive a 100%.
4. If you lose any part of the packet, you may get another one, but this will cost you 10 POINTS on your final
test grade each time!

1. Making connections: Think of a time that you were having a fight with someone (maybe your boyfriend/girlfriend, maybe your best friend, etc.).
How would you have felt if someone close to you (especially a brother, sister, or cousin) hung out with this person when you were angry at them?
How is this similar or different than the feud the Capulets and the Montagues are having?
2. Translate Romeo’s speech to Juliet when he calls her the sun into your own words. Make it sound like regular English. (Act II, Scene 2)
3. Rhyming Words: Find 10 pairs of rhyming words in Act _____, Scene ______.
4. Alliteration: Find 5 lines that include alliteration in Act ____, Scene ______. Copy those lines below, and underline the words that alliterate.
5. Theme: One theme of Romeo and Juliet is that love can cause violence. Think of a movie, play, short story, or experience from your life that is
evidence that love can cause violence. Write a paragraph (about 7 sentences long) that proves that this theme is true. Be sure to include a main idea
sentence and underline it!

Example: You might write about a time when two different people had a crush on you and got in a fight over who could have
you.

Example: You might write about the movie “Pearl Harbor,” in which two best friends fight over the same woman.

Example: You might write about the movie “John Q” in which Denzel Washington holds an entire hospital hostage so that his
son can receive medical attention.
6. Characters: Make a T-chart with Romeo on one side and Juliet on the other. Make a list of at least 10 things that you know about each one of
them based on what we have read in the play.
