Student Learning Target Grade: 6th Subject: Mathematics Interval of Instruction: Full Year 1. WHAT SHOULD STUDENTS KNOW AND BE ABLE TO DO? HOW WILL I MEASURE SUCCESS? What content will I prioritize? o What standards are most tied to success? o What prior knowledge will they need to be successful? What assessment will provide the best evidence of my students’ mastery of the priority content at the end of the year? o Will this assessment method enable me to determine how students are progressing throughout the year? Priority Content: Ratios and Proportional Relationships: Understand ratio concepts and use ratio reasoning to solve problems.* The Number System: 1) Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division to divide fractions by fractions. 2) Multiply and divide multi-digit numbers and find common factors and multiples. 3) Apply and extend previous understandings of numbers to the system of rational numbers.* Expressions and Equations: 1) Apply and extend previous understandings of arithmetic to algebraic expressions. 2) Reason about and solve one-variable equations and inequalities. 3) Represent and analyze quantitative relationships between dependent and independent variables.* Geometry: Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, surface area, and volume. Statistics and Probability: 1) Develop understanding of statistical variability. 2) Summarize and describe distributions.* *Denotes Priority Content Standards as per CCSSM/LDOE which reflects 65% of instruction. Sources: PARCC Model Content Framework for Grades 6-8, CCSSM End-of-Year Assessment Method and Name: I am using a 6th grade district benchmark assessment. This assessment includes 45 items that will determine student mastery of 6.RP.1-3, 6.NS.1-8, 6.EE.1-9, 6.G.1-4, and 6.SP.1-5. These tasks are aligned to the assessment items types of the 2014-2014 PARCC Assessment Guide and assess students’ mastery of Priority Content. Student responses will be scored electronically. 2. WHAT DO STUDENTS KNOW AND WHAT ARE THEY ABLE TO DO NOW? What knowledge/skills are related to success with this year’s priority content? What data sources and background information are available? What diagnostic assessment resources are available? What can I conclude [insert hyperlink to support docs] about students’ mastery of prior knowledge and skills? Based on the data, what can I conclude about students’ readiness? I reviewed the 2013-14 6th grade iLEAP results of my 25 students and calculated the average percent correct for each of the 5 reporting categories: 64% Operations and Algebra Thinking, 55% Number and Operations in Base Ten, 45% Number and Operation—Fractions, 60% Measurement and Data, and 63% Geometry. I then reviewed the 6th grade District Benchmark Test 1 to determine 6th grade math readiness assessment. This assessment includes 49 multiple choice items that assess student mastery of necessary skills that are aligned to the 6 th grade PARCC evidence tables. I administered the assessment in 2 session on separate days. A summary of student performance on this assessment is provided in the chart below. IS THERE A GROUP OF STUDENTS ON WHICH I SHOULD FOCUS THIS LEARNING TARGET? Have I set learning targets for all of my students? Which subgroups in my school population need additional support to achieve success? Which students will need additional support to achieve success? All students will require targeted remedial support in order to be successful with current grade level standards. Therefore, all of my students (25) are the focus of this SLT. Five students have been identified as needing additional individualized support in order to be successful. STUDENT LEARNING TARGET: What level of performance on the end-of-year assessment from Step 1 do I expect the identified student population to achieve? 64 % of students will score Basic or above on the district benchmark test. SCORING PLAN: How will you measure your students’ success? Based on students’ baseline data, what is the minimum level of performance I expect from the identified students? Based on students’ baseline data, how many students can reasonably be expected to meet or exceed the expected level of performance? Insufficient Attainment of Target (1 point): The teacher has demonstrated an insufficient impact on student learning by falling far short of the target. Partial Attainment of Target (2 points): The teacher has demonstrated some impact on student learning, but did not meet the target. Full Attainment of Target (3 points): The teacher has demonstrated a considerable impact on student learning by meeting the target. Exceptional Attainment of Target (4 points): The teacher has demonstrated an outstanding impact on student learning by surpassing the target by a meaningful margin. HOW WILL I MONITOR PROGRESS? When will I monitor students’ developing mastery of the priority content? What curricular resources and assessment methods will I use to determine students’ mastery of the priority content on an on-going basis? o Are these assessment methods aligned with the end-of-year assessment identified in Step 1? Ongoing As I plan, instruct, and assess throughout the year, I will: 1) Use the 6th grade Remediation Guide to determine student readiness for the grade level content standards. 2) Assess mastery of the major content for 6th using Instructional and Extended Constructed Response Tasks located in the 6 th Grade Math Guidebook and other teacher developed tasks. 3) Administer mid and end of unit assessment that include tasks aligned to the appropriate unit standards. 4. HOW WILL I MONITOR PROGRESS? When will I monitor students’ developing mastery of the priority content? What curricular resources and assessment methods will I use to determine students’ mastery of the priority content on an on-going basis? o Are these assessment methods aligned with the end-of-year assessment identified in Step 1? 4) Administer 3 checkpoint assessments to determine mastery of 6.RP.1-3, 6.NS.1-8, 6.EE.1-9, 6.G.1-4, and 6.SP.1-5 (those taught at the time of each checkpoint assessment). Checkpoint 1 I will assess student progress in October using a common assessment developed by the 6th grade team. Checkpoint 2 I will assess student progress in December using a common assessment developed by the 6th grade team. Checkpoint 3 I will assess student progress in February using a common assessment developed by the 6th grade team.
