water, occurs at night
sea breeze – the movement of cooler air from water towards
land, occurs during the day

slopes down to valleys, occurs at night
planetary winds – long lasting circulation patterns that affect
large areas of earth
jet streams – fast moving global winds that occur in the upper
troposphere
air mass – a large body of air that has about the same
temperature and moisture conditions throughout
front – the boundary between two air masses with different properties
meteorologist – a scientist who studies weather
anemometer – a tool used to measure wind speed
barometer – a tool used to measure air pressure
rain gauge – a tool used to measure rain
thermometer – a tool used to measure temperature
thunderstorm – a severe storm that has lightning, gusty winds,
and heavy rain
