WHAT CAN YOU SEE? Teacher Notes About the Activity This activity gives glimpses of a scene from the Bayeux Tapestry. Pupils are asked to guess what is being shown to them. Objectives and Targets Provide Initial Stimulus Material so as to create a pathway into new learning experiences Allow pupils to begin to analyse source material and ask questions. Help create a sense of the ‘Big Picture’ i.e. reasons for the Norman Conquest. Prior learning Pupils may have covered events prior to 1066 but this activity could also be used as an introduction to the topic of the Norman Conquest. How to use This activity has been designed to be used at the beginning of a lesson. Allow pupils to note or call out what they see. Pupils should be allowed to infer and analyse the visual evidence. The activity can be adapted to cover any topic by simply changing the picture used. Music could also be used as the PowerPoint runs e.g. Pink Panther.
