About the Activity

This activity gives glimpses of a scene from the Bayeux Tapestry. Pupils are asked to guess what
is being shown to them.
National Curriculum Link
Key Stage 3 Programme of Study - How the coming of the Normans affected Wales and Britain
between 1000 and 1500.
Objectives and Targets

Provide Initial Stimulus Material so as to create a pathway into new learning experiences

Allow pupils to begin to analyse source material and ask questions.

Help create a sense of the ‘Big Picture’ i.e. reasons for the Norman Conquest.
Prior learning

Pupils may have covered events prior to 1066 but this activity could also be used as an
introduction to the topic of the Norman Conquest.
How to use

This activity has been designed to be used at the beginning of a lesson.

Allow pupils to note or call out what they see.

Pupils should be allowed to infer and analyse the visual evidence.

The activity can be adapted to cover any topic by simply changing the picture used.

Music could also be used as the PowerPoint runs e.g. Pink Panther.
