Legacy of professor PhD Svetozar Stojanović - books with dedication
Summary
The paper presents books with dedication from the Legacy of professor PhD Svetozar Stojanović, one
of the most significant names of Serbian philosophical, social and scientific thought of the second half
of the 20th century. The personal library of professor Stojanović, born in Kragujevac, was brought to
University Library in Kragujevac in spring of 2011. Around 2800 books, newspapers and professional
notes from Stojanović’s private library were handed in to the Library by means of the University of
Kragujevac. The collection of monographic publications contains 2235 bibliographic units, which can
be classified into two groups: books in Serbian (1413 books) and books in foreign languages (822
books). In terms of subject matter, the library covers a large area of science, and the greatest number of
publications is professional literature from fields of philosophy, ethics, logic, sociology, anthropology,
political sciences, history, religion, as well as numerous literary works of outstanding writers from
Serbia and the world, then dictionaries, various encyclopedias, and also art publications. The time span
of the published books goes from 1898 to 2010. Books of special value are those having dedication of
the author (352 books), which professor Stojanović received from colleagues, contributors,
worshippers, friends, and they include great names of literary and social and political scene of Serbia
and the world, such as Dobrica Ćosić, Antonije Isaković, Nikša Stipčević, Matija Bećković, then
Mihailo Marković, Ljubomir Tadić, Gajo Petrović, Aleks Dragnić, Đorđe Vid Tomašević, Kosta
Čavoški, Jovan Aranđelović, Erih From (Erich Fromm), Jirgen Habermas (Jürgen Habermas) and
others. Books with dedication are significant not only in terms of cultural and historical value and
names of their authors, but also since they testify to socializing of Stojanović with those ones being
largely familiar with cultural and historical heritage, who expressed respect for his work in their own
works.
