CIRCULATORY SYSTEM – Chapter 37.2
CALIFORNIA STATE STANDARD
Physiology #9: As a result of the coordinated structures and functions of organ systems,
the internal environment of the human body remains relatively stable (homeostatic)
despite changes in the outside environment. As a basis for understanding this concept:
a. Students know how the complementary activity of major body systems provides
cells with oxygen and nutrients and removes toxic waste products such as carbon
dioxide.
What does this standard mean???

Explain homeostasis and how the body maintains homeostasis regardless of changes
in the outside environment.

Explain the following:
► What is the circulatory system?
► What parts make up the circulatory system?
► What is the function of each part of the circulatory system?

Explain how the circulatory system works with the respiratory system and muscular
system to provide cells with oxygen and to remove carbon dioxide.

Explain how the circulatory system works with the digestive system and urinary
system to provide cells with nutrients and to remove waste products.

Explain how the circulatory system works with the endocrine system to maintain
homeostasis in the body.

Explain how the circulatory system works with and communicates with the lymphatic
system, the integumentary system, and the skeletal system.
Apply what you have learned…
Discuss an interesting aspect of the circulatory system, for example: clogged arteries,
brain hemorrhage, blood clotting, heart attack, heart murmur, anemia, hemophilia,
malaria, etc.
