“Review Test”
Learning Objective:
Students will apply what they’ve learned about:
(1) Using alternate interior angles to measure the circumference of the earth.
(2) Using the Side-Splitter Theorem to divide a line segment into any number of
equal sections.
(3) Proving the Side-Splitter Theorem
(4) Using the Side-Splitter Theorem to calculate segments on a triangle divided by
a line parallel to one side.
(5) Using the trigonometric ratios (sine, cosine, tangent) to calculate the height of
a triangle in order to calculate the area of a triangle.

(1) Using this diagram, explain how Euratosthenes estimated the circumference
of the earth.
(2)
Using the above illustrations, divide the line below into 5 equal parts.
________________________________________________________
(3) Prove that PA / AQ = PB / BR
(4) Similar Triangles.
Measure the sides and the angles.
Calculate the ratios of DE / AB, DF / AC and EF / BC.
Calculate the ratios of DE / DF and AB / AC
(5) Find the missing sides using the Side-Splitter Theorem.
(6) Answer 2 of 3:
Find the area of each triangle. Round each answer to the nearest tenth.
1.
The area of the triangle is
approximately
square units.
2.
The area of the triangle is
approximately
square units.
3.
A landscape designer is designing a flower garden for a
triangular area that is bounded on two sides by the client’s
house and driveway. The length of the edges of the garden
along the house and driveway are
and
respectively, and
the edges come together at an angle of
. Draw a diagram,
and then find the area of the garden to the nearest square foot.
The garden is in the shape of a triangle in which the lengths of
two sides and the included angle have been provided.
