Test #1: Output Power Measurement
Purpose:
The objective of this test is to measure the output voltage, average output power, and maximum output power. This test will indicate if
the system meets engineering specifications 1, 2, and 3. A range of 10 to 12.5DC voltages are supplied to the NSSPCM to ensure the
system can operate properly over a range of possible battery voltages.
Equipment Used:
HP 34401A Digital Benchtop Multimeter, S/N: US36091339
Cornell-Dubilier Electronics RDA31 Decade Resistor Box, S/N: N/A
Populated and functional NSSPCM printed circuit board
NSSPCM Output Power Cable
Test leads
Procedure:
1) Connect a multimeter to the decade resistance box and measure the resistance for each value listed in table 1. Record the
resistance values in table 2.
2) Connect the NSSPCM to a DC power supply and set the input voltage to 10V with current limit of 0.8A. Before turning on the
power supply, connect the 2-meter output voltage supply cable to the PCB.
3) Turn on DC power supply and measure the output voltage from the 2-m power cable and ensure it is 12V.
4) Apply a load by connecting the end of the output cable to the decade box. Measure the output voltage for each of the listed
load values in table 1. Calculate the output current from the measured output voltage and load resistance. Read the input
current from the power supply read out. Record all measurements in table 2.
5) Repeat steps 2 through 4 for supply voltages of 11V, 12V, and 12.5V. Record all measurements in tables 3, 4 and 5. Copy
measured resistance values from table 2 to tables 3-5.
6) Calculate power values with measured voltage and current values. Compare results with acceptance criteria.

Acceptance Criteria:
Output Voltage= 12V ±1.2V (10.8 ≤ Vout ≤ 13.2) – For each load value from 1W to 5W
Output Power = > 1W (for ES2: Average Power) and >4W (for ES3: Maximum Power)
