NSSPCM Test Documents Test #1: Output Power Measurement Purpose: The objective of this test is to measure the output voltage, average output power, and maximum output power. This test will indicate if the system meets engineering specifications 1, 2, and 3. A range of 10 to 12.5DC voltages are supplied to the NSSPCM to ensure the system can operate properly over a range of possible battery voltages. Equipment Used: HP 34401A Digital Benchtop Multimeter, S/N: US36091339 Cornell-Dubilier Electronics RDA31 Decade Resistor Box, S/N: N/A Populated and functional NSSPCM printed circuit board NSSPCM Output Power Cable Test leads Procedure: 1) Connect a multimeter to the decade resistance box and measure the resistance for each value listed in table 1. Record the resistance values in table 2. 2) Connect the NSSPCM to a DC power supply and set the input voltage to 10V with current limit of 0.8A. Before turning on the power supply, connect the 2-meter output voltage supply cable to the PCB. 3) Turn on DC power supply and measure the output voltage from the 2-m power cable and ensure it is 12V. 4) Apply a load by connecting the end of the output cable to the decade box. Measure the output voltage for each of the listed load values in table 1. Calculate the output current from the measured output voltage and load resistance. Read the input current from the power supply read out. Record all measurements in table 2. 5) Repeat steps 2 through 4 for supply voltages of 11V, 12V, and 12.5V. Record all measurements in tables 3, 4 and 5. Copy measured resistance values from table 2 to tables 3-5. 6) Calculate power values with measured voltage and current values. Compare results with acceptance criteria. 1 NSSPCM Test Documents Acceptance Criteria: Output Voltage= 12V ±1.2V (10.8 ≤ Vout ≤ 13.2) – For each load value from 1W to 5W Output Power = > 1W (for ES2: Average Power) and >4W (for ES3: Maximum Power) Table 1: Test Voltage, Current, Resistance, and Power Values VIN (V) --------- VOUT (V) IOUT (A) Resistance (Ω) PowerOUT (W) 12.0 0.13 96.0 1.5 12.0 0.17 72.0 2.0 12.0 0.21 58.0 2.5 12.0 0.25 48.0 3.0 12.0 0.29 41.0 3.5 12.0 0.33 36.0 4.0 12.0 0.38 32.0 4.5 12.0 0.42 29.0 5.0 Resistance values rounded to nearest whole number Test Results: Table 2: Recorded Measurement Values (10VIN) VIN (V) 10.0 10.0 10.0 10.0 10.0 10.0 10.0 10.0 IIN (A) VOUT (V) 0.235 11.997 0.291 11.990 0.345 11.983 0.403 11.976 0.459 11.970 0.514 11.964 0.568 11.958 0.617 11.953 IOUT (A) 0.125 0.167 0.207 0.250 0.293 0.332 0.374 0.411 Resistance (Ω) 95.936 71.746 57.770 47.871 40.894 35.992 32.013 29.115 PowerOUT (W) 1.500 2.004 2.486 2.996 3.504 3.977 4.467 4.907 2 NSSPCM Test Documents Table 3: Recorded Measurement Values (11VIN) VIN (V) 11.0 11.0 11.0 11.0 11.0 11.0 11.0 11.0 IIN (A) VOUT (V) 0.219 12.000 0.271 11.992 0.321 11.986 0.374 11.978 0.424 11.969 0.472 11.962 0.523 11.955 0.568 11.948 IOUT (A) 0.125 0.167 0.207 0.250 0.293 0.332 0.373 0.410 Resistance (Ω) 95.936 71.746 57.770 47.871 40.894 35.992 32.013 29.115 PowerOUT (W) 1.501 2.004 2.487 2.997 3.503 3.976 4.464 4.903 Table 4: Recorded Measurement Values (12VIN) VIN (V) 12.0 12.0 12.0 12.0 12.0 12.0 12.0 12.0 IIN (A) VOUT (V) 0.207 12.002 0.255 11.995 0.300 11.987 0.348 11.979 0.396 11.971 0.438 11.964 0.485 11.957 0.527 11.950 IOUT (A) 0.125 0.167 0.207 0.250 0.293 0.332 0.374 0.410 Resistance (Ω) 95.936 71.746 57.770 47.871 40.894 35.992 32.013 29.115 PowerOUT (W) 1.502 2.005 2.487 2.998 3.504 3.977 4.466 4.905 3 NSSPCM Test Documents Table 4: Recorded Measurement Values (12.5VIN) VIN (V) 12.5 12.5 12.5 12.5 12.5 12.5 12.5 12.5 IIN (A) VOUT (V) 0.203 12.012 0.249 12.003 0.292 11.995 0.337 11.986 0.383 11.975 0.424 11.968 0.468 11.960 0.509 11.953 IOUT (A) 0.125 0.167 0.208 0.250 0.293 0.333 0.374 0.411 Resistance (Ω) 95.936 71.746 57.770 47.871 40.894 35.992 32.013 29.115 PowerOUT (W) 1.504 2.008 2.491 3.001 3.507 3.980 4.468 4.907 Tester Name:___Stephen Giannotti____ Date (yyyy-mm-dd):_2012-05-08_ Pass/Fail:__Pass____ Reviewed By:___Jacob Emenheiser_______ Date(yyyy-mm-dd): _2012-05-08_ Pass/Fail:__Pass____ Comments: *See plot on page 5 (graphed data) 4 NSSPCM Test Documents Plotted output voltage values versus load values for 10V, 11V, 12V, and 12.5V DC inputs.
