Notes – Day 3 (Monica)
Name_________________________
Geometry - Warm Up
1. Find the perimeter of the following triangle.
8x - 21
3x - 6
2x - 5
2. In ABC, A = (2x + 15)°, B = (7x + 9)°, and C = (5x – 13)°. Classify the triangle by its angles.
List the angles from least to greatest.
3. Can a triangle be obtuse and right at the same time? Explain using words.
Solving Inequalities Review
Solving Inequalities
- Solve as you would a regular equation
- However, when you _________________ or
______________ by a negative number, you must
remember _______________________________
Example 1: Solve for x

x
 11
3
Example 2: Solve for x
8  2x  24
Compound Inequalities: consists of _____________________ inequalities joined by __________
or _______.
SOLVING INEQUALITIES joined by
a) If written separately with AND between them,
- solve each inequality separately
- express the solution as the intersection of the two answers (or what they have in
common)
EXAMPLE 3:
-7 < x – 5 and
x–5<4
Add 5 to each inequality
Simplify
Write with AND
INEQUALITIES WITH AND can be written as one expression
b) If written as one expression,
- perform the same operation to each part of the expression.
- Remember to flip the inequality when multiplying or dividing by a negative
number
- Simplify.
- Keep in the same form as first written.
EXAMPLE 4:
-7 < -z – 1 < 3
Add 1 to each part of the inequality
Divide by -1 and flip the inequalities
Simplify if needed
EXAMPLE 5:
25  3x  8  52
