In solving the following systems, state the name of the system (Independent, Dependent, or Inconsistent) and also
state the number of solutions (none, one or many) 1. Solve the system by graphing. Show all work.10+5y=-4x 4y=8-3x 2. Solve the system by substitution method and check system by resolving by the Addition method. 2x-3y=8
-3x+y=-2
(1) 10 + 5y = -4x  5y = -4x - 10  y = (-4/5)x - 2 --- (1)
-4y = 8 - 3x  4y = 3x - 8  x = (3/4)x - 2 --- (2)
We take two points on (1) as (0, -2) and (5, -6), plot these and join to get a line
We take two points on (2) as (0, -2) and (4, 1), plot these and join to get a line
The lines intersect at (0, -2)
Solution: x = 0, y = -2
(The system is Independent, Consistent and has a unique solution.)
(2) From the second equation, y = 3x - 2
Plug this into the first equation
2x - 3(3x - 2) = 8
2x - 9x + 6 = 8
-7x = 2
x = -2/7
y = 3x - 2 = 3(-2/7) - 2 = -20/7
Solution: x = -2/7, y = -20/7
(The system is Independent, Consistent and has a unique solution.)
Check: Multiply the second equation by 3 and add with the first
2x - 3y + 3(-3x + y) = 8 + 3(-2)
2x - 3y - 9x + 3y = 2
-7x = 2
x = -2/7
y = 3x - 2 = 3(-2/7) - 2 = -20/7
Solution: x = -2/7, y = -20/7.
