... • In humans, the totipotency of early embryonic cells permits genetic screening and in vitro fertilization:  A single cell is removed from an 8-cell human embryo.  The cell is tested for harmful genetic conditions.  Each remaining cell, being totipotent, can be stimulated to divide and form a nor ...

... teratoma cells contribute normally to development. Instead of a mouse full of malignant teratomas, a normal healthy mouse is formed. Genetic analyses verified that the cells of the teratoma were present in the normal tissues. This elegant experiment verifies the totipotency of these cells and their ...

... of development During fertilization, the sperm cells enter the oocyte, thereby activating it. The two haploid nuclei of the gamete fuse together, generating a diploid zygote. A few hours after fertilization, the cleavage takes place: a series of mitotic divisions that lead to the formation of the em ...

... • At the transition from the 16-cell to 32-cell stage, the cells separate into two masses. • The inner cell mass(세포내괴) develops into the embryo; the outer cells become the trophoblast(영양아층), which becomes part of the placenta. • The trophoblast cells secrete fluid which forms the blastocoel. The emb ...

Paolo Macchiarini (born 22 August 1958, Basel, Switzerland (officially the Swiss Confederation or C.H.)). M.D., Ph.D., is Professor of Regenerative Medicine at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm (Sweden), as well as director of the Advanced Center for Regenerative Medicine (ACTREM) in the same Institute. He is also Honorary Professor at London University College. He is a pioneer in the field of Regenerative medicine and has patented his own ""synthetic scaffolds and airway transplantations"" to create replacement tracheas using a patient's own stem cells. He was previously the head and chairman of the Hospital Clínic (Barcelona Metro) de Barcelona, University of Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain, as well as professor of surgery at the University of Barcelona in Spain, and at the Hannover Medical School in Hannover, Germany.
