The Enigma of β2-Adrenergic Receptor Gi Signaling in the Heart

... The exact mechanism underlying the cross-inhibition of ␤1AR function by the ␤2AR-Gi signaling remains elusive. There are several candidate mechanisms, including the ␤2AR-Gi signaling–mediated direct suppression of adenylyl cyclase activity or activation of PI3K. With respect to the latter, it has be ...

Cardiac surgery

Cardiovascular (heart) surgery is surgery on the heart or great vessels performed by cardiac surgeons. Frequently, it is done to treat complications of ischemic heart disease (for example, coronary artery bypass grafting), correct congenital heart disease, or treat valvular heart disease from various causes including endocarditis, rheumatic heart disease and atherosclerosis. It also includes heart transplantation.
