The clinical challenge of concomitant aortic and mitral valve stenosis
The clinical challenge of concomitant aortic and mitral valve stenosis

... ventricular hypertrophy and stiffness resulting from AS. The physical examination can be misleading. Even in the absence of atrial fibrillation, the presence of MS can suppress the AS-related 4th heart sound, and both the systolic aortic and the diastolic mitral murmurs can be blunted by the decreas ...

... Intraventricular pressure was measured using a servo-null pressure system (model 900A; World Precision Instruments) and an analog–digital (AD) board (DAQPad 6020-50E; National Instruments, Austin, TX, USA) at a rate of 600·Hz. A glass micropipette with a 2–5·␮m diameter tip was filled with 3·mol·l–1 ...

... To ignore V0 and report the elastance as p/V would be inadequate as there are marked differences in V0 in cases of infarction or dilated cardiomyopathy i.e. V0 is sensitive to the pathologic condition of the heart. In situations of high contractility V0 may have negative values. The similarity betwe ...

Detection of scarred and viable myocardium using a new magnetic

... In many patients with chronic coronary artery disease, impaired left ventricular contraction arises from regions of viable (ischaemic or hibernating) rather than scarred myocardium.5 6 The identification of this viable myocardium is of crucial clinical importance. It predicts not only improved regio ...

Jatene procedure

The Jatene procedure, or arterial switch, is an open heart surgical procedure used to correct dextro-transposition of the great arteries (d-TGA); its development was pioneered by Canadian cardiac surgeon William Mustard and it was named for Brazilian cardiac surgeon Adib Jatene, who was the first to use it successfully. It was the first method of d-TGA repair to be attempted, but the last to be put into regular use because of technological limitations at the time of its conception. Use of the arterial switch is historically preceded by two atrial switch methods: the Senning and Mustard procedures. This surgery may be used in combination with other procedures for treatment of certain cases of double outlet right ventricle (DORV) in which the great arteries are dextro-transposed.
