... The translation rate Rx at a position x depends on the codon at this position. We use the codondependent rates determined in ref. [11], as summarized in table 1. To simplify the model, we assign one of the following three rates to each codon; A (∼35 codons/sec), B (∼8 codons/sec), and C-rate (∼4.5 c ...
The Frequency Distribution of Nucleotide Variation in Drosophila
The Frequency Distribution of Nucleotide Variation in Drosophila

... Introduction An early result of theoretical population genetics was the expected frequency distribution of mutations under a neutral, equilibrium model of evolution (e.g., Wright 1938; Kimura 1983). Unfortunately, violations of any one (or several) of the assumptions of the neutral, equilibrium mode ...

Running Head: PERSONALITY AND WELL-BEING

... Given that subjective well-being variance is mostly stable and not the result of environmental or demographic factors prompted some to suggest that individuals have biologically-based, stable well-being “set points” (Lykken & Tellegen, 1996). This hypothesis is supported by behavior genetic studies ...

Quantitative trait locus

A quantitative trait locus (QTL) is a section of DNA (the locus) that correlates with variation in a phenotype (the quantitative trait). The QTL typically is linked to, or contains, the genes that control that phenotype. QTLs are mapped by identifying which molecular markers (such as SNPs or AFLPs) correlate with an observed trait. This is often an early step in identifying and sequencing the actual genes that cause the trait variation.Quantitative traits are phenotypes (characteristics) that vary in degree and can be attributed to polygenic effects, i.e., the product of two or more genes, and their environment.
